Advantages: Views, Beaches, Not crass
Disadvantages: None
We've just returned from a two-week, two centre, holiday in Corsica booked through Corsican Places and I have to say that Corsica, or at least the places where we stayed in Corsica, makes a fantastic destination - as long as you don't want 'English Pubs' and McDonald's. To me, this is how the mediterranean countries should be, beautiful countryside and beaches, crystal clear seas, and totally unsullied by the crassness of trying to cope with hoards of tourists crying out for pints of bitter and fish fingers and chips. We flew into Calvi with Astraeus Airlines and after a hair raising drive over the mountains, spent a week near St Florent in the north - nice and picturesque but not much there. For the second week we drove back to Calvi which is a beautiful city on the west coast - lovely beaches, towering citadel and good shops. The villas we stayed in were good quality, but not particularly infant friendly, because they both had large drops from the patios and one had a nice open plan kitchen which unfortunately didn't have any cupboard doors (handy for the small boy to pull all the coffee cups out). A word of caution - not many people speak English. Personally I found this a challenge rather than a problem, having to dredge up all that schoolboy French that I knew I should have learnt at the time but could never be bothered. I'd recommend: eating out (try the Sanglier wild boar), local cheeses, Arbous jam, take to the hills (don't stick to the coast, go inland and visit the small villages).
