CroatiaNewest Review: ... views are really specatcular. We also hired out a little motorised boat and explored the neighbouring islands which was a fantastic day out. Don't expect sandy beaches in this part of Croatia though. Most are pebbly at best and the locals don't seem to mind sunbathing on jaggy rocks and slabs of concrete! After spending a few days here we got a bus over to the other side of the island and ... more |

Croatia is similar in appearance to other European countries such as Italy and it's very easy to get around and explore. ************************************** Dubrovnic We stayed at the youth hostel which is pretty well located and within walking distance of the old town. There are also a couple of houses beside the hostel where you can rent out a room from some crazy old ladies. This is a cheap option and better than the hostel as we got our own room. It's also a good way to see the real people of Croatia. The old town is really beautiful and has a lovely atmosphere. I would recommend walking around the city walls as it is a great way see the ... I have been extremely lucky in the last 24 years to have done a lot of travelling (more reviews on this to follow Im sure) but a few weeks ago when it was suggested we go to Croatia I had nothing to say. It is a place I have heard banded about on these 'place in the sun' programmes but not somewhere Ive ever really researched or considered as a holiday destination. We only had four days and couldn't really argue with the flight length (1hour 50 minutes from Stanstead) or the price of the plane ticket (£20 inc taxes each way with Ryanair.) So I packed for spring weather and off we went. I have intimated on my Ryanair review that one (if not the only) plus ... Read the complete review

In Summer 01, I discovered Croatia, in particular the Istrian Riviera and Porec. Its a beautiful peninsular, with cobbled streets, beautiful old architecture and window boxes full of flowers tumbling over. In particular, the main street, Decumanus, was built by the Romans and is over 2000 years old. The quality of the accom is very high. I travelled with Thomson and stayed at the Hotel Neptun. With a sea view and balcony room, you can have beautiful views over the promenade, and down the coast to Sveti Nikola, the island opposite the town. Croatia has so much going for it. In the north, the food is very much influenced by the Italians, and with ... Read the complete review

I decided on Croatia as a more unusual place for a fly-drive. After flying to Split, I headed north to Plitvice National Park, across the mountains to the coast, then down the coast to Makarska and across to the island of Brac. A few brief comments on the places... Plitvice is gorgeous, a series of lakes connected by waterfalls. Stay at one of the park's three hotels so you can get out on the trails early before the arrive. There's a bus and boat system for lazier people. Heading back towards the coast, the landscape suddenly changes from green forested mountains to stark limestone, with great views across the bare islands of the middle ... Read the complete review

One thing I have learned from recent experience is that if you sunbathe in the altogether, it is best to ensure that there are no bees in the immediate vicinity, or you may get stung in a delicate area, but more about that later..... I was recently given the opportunity to visit Croatia and Slovenia. I have already written about Slovenia, so I will give the opinion "Ride the White Stallions!" a plug here if you don't mind. Flying time from Gatwick to Croatia takes about two and a half-hours; however, I went by bus and it took three days. If there is a suitable category for bus travel, I may write about my journey through France, Belgium, ... Read the complete review
