Advantages: Warmth, character and great surroundings

Disadvantages: Quite a long flight (but worth it!!)

You won't want to leave this warm, vibrant and friendly country. I have never had an experience like it.
As Cuba stands at present, they are not a particularly rich or prosperous country, (although the Cubans do like to impress upon you that they have very rich "temporary" residents.), you may find that you will need to take a couple of days to get used to the people as well as the places.
Now is probably the best time to see Cuba as it should be seen. Their main trade, other than the famous cigars and rum, is tourism. You are always treated as a guest in their country, not just as a tourist, and you are left with the feeling that there is nothing they won't or can't do for you.
I was fortunate to be able to visit Varadero, which is one of their main tourism strips. You can cover the whole of the strip, right down into Varadero town centre using the "Dollar" bus. The currency tends to be US Dollars, however cash dispensers will produce pesos instead.
Whilst in Cuba I took a two day trip to Havana. What an experience!! It is incredible, and I can't wait to go back. I could have spent a week in Havana, and still not managed to get everything in. The buildings are incredible, and if you are as lucky as I was, the guide that we had, covered so much of the history behind Cuba, that even the youngest amongst us could not help but be drawn into it all.
Back at the resort, there was swimming, sailing, diving and so many other excursions, I would have needed another holiday to recover if I had done them all. So instead I will just have to go back again next year and finish what I started!!
