I stood at the top of Mount Ansan and looked down through 800 metres of shimmering humidity at the city spread out before me. We had come to Daegu in search of Korea’s ‘Sex City’, but we had found instead a city that disappointed, disgusted and delighted in equal measure. Daegu’s 2.5 million inhabitants include women that are widely held to be the most beautiful in Korea. That aside, Koreans are not exactly fulsome in their praise of a city that boasts the country’s hottest summers and coldest winters.
