Denmark ... land neighbour, Germany, southwest of Sweden, and south of Norway, it is located at 56° N 10° E in northern Europe. The national capital is Copenhagen. Denmark is regarded as a Scandinavian country, although it is not located on the Scandinavian Peninsula. The kingdom of Denmark (Danmarks Rige) includes Denmark proper, the Faroe Islands and Greenland. Denmark borders both the Baltic and the North Sea. The country consists of a large peninsula, Jutland, which borders northern Germany, plus a large number of islands, most notably Zealand, Funen, Vendsyssel-Thy, Lolland and Bornholm as well as hundreds of minor islands often referred to as the Danish Archipelago. Denmark has historically controlled the approach to the Baltic Sea, and these waters are also known as the Danish straits. Denmark became a constitutional monarchy in 1849 after having been an absolutist state since 1660 and has been a parliamentary democracy since 1901. Having existed for more than 1000 years, the Danish monarchy is the second oldest in the world, right after the Japanese. Denmark is a part of the European Union. The Kingdom of Denmark also encompasses two off-shore territories, Greenland and the Faroe Islands, both of which enjoy wideranging home rule. Since the mid-20th century, Danish society has been partly defined by the "Scandinavian Model" of public services. According to a study published by UNESCO and the CIA, Denmark ranks as the "happiest" nation on earth.

It is a great place for adults as well as for children and it is also a place which can be revisited many times as they constantly build new lego landscapes. A great attraction if the weather is nice is the West coast. It is a fun place to swim as the waves often gets very strong. ... more

If you are looking for a nice holiday, in a nice country with nice people and you are not too worried about the weather then Denmark is a great place. The rather flat country side offers great variations from the east to the west and from the nort to the south. Denmark is a small country but it does still have a lot to offer both to people seeking cultural entertainment and for people preferrring being out in the nature. In the very north of Jutland (Jylland, mainland connected with Germany) you will find Skagen, a beautiful little town ... if you go all the way up to the tip of the country (just north of Skagen) you will find lovely sandy beaches and you can ...  Read the complete review

I would never have even considered taking a trip to Denmark had it not been for a conference I was required to attend for my research. I had heard it was expensive and the weather was very similar to that of the UK...so really no great appeal to a twenty something female - how wrong I was! This opinion is not meant to be a complete run down of Denmark, more of an account of the areas that I visited in the week I was there. GENERAL ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Believe it or not, Denmark is made up of 450 islands, most quite tiny and uninhabited. It is divided up into 3 regions; Sjaelland, Fyn and the peninsula of Jylland. The two cities I stayed in; Aalborg and Aarhus ...  Read the complete review

Having recently returned from a ten year stay in Denmark, the following are some usefull tips for anyone contemplating taking up residency. In order to live in the country longer than the statutary 3 months the Danish authorities like to see the following criteria satisfied. 1 A job. Don't worry about the language barrier, there are various places that employ English speaking people.Among these and in Copenhagen are Rosie Magees The John Smiths Pub (which i might add has an excelent rugby team called the Exiles and is all British) The Australian Bar is another of our coloquial cousins havens and is normaly on the look out for staff. ...  Read the complete review

Denmark is a country which I love with a passion. It's not that I've travelled it extensively or know a great deal about it, more that, if I was forced to live elsewhere on this planet, it would be there. I've visited about a dozen times over the last 20 years or so but never ventured further than Jylland (Jutland, the mainland). No, I've never even been to Copenhagen but have heard from many who have that it does indeed live up to the song lyrics. One day I'll get round to it. Why haven't I visited elsewhere? I don't know really. I suppose it's because I've just never got round to it because everything we want can be found ...  Read the complete review

My first day in Copenhagen was not exciting. The weather was gloomy and the Tivoli Park was not open because it was still in April. However, there was one thing I must say. The warmth and friendliness of Danish was almost unsurpassed in most of the European countries. They were so helpful. Whenever we had doubt about the bus we should take, somebody will always turn up to help us. When you travel around the county, I had an inexplicable sense of secure. It appeared to me as if the country was free of crimes. Another notable thing was that although Copenhagen does not have underground or Metro system, the bus system is superb. There is extensive bus network around ...  Read the complete review
