Denver really does have an enormous amount to recoemmend it, with the only thing lacking being a beach! The downtown area, known as LoDo, has been substantially redeveloped over the last 20 years, and there are now two sporting arenas for the city's professional teams (the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche play at the Pepsi Center, which also hosts concerts, whilst the Colorado Rockies play at Coors Field) Indeed it is hard to imagine what it was like before, with the shopping centred around the 16th Street Mall, complete with a free shuttle bus which can take you from one end to to the other if you so desire, and which stops at most intersections. Denver, the mile high city, is definitely a place to visit on your trip to the US. I have spent many weeks in Denver, both during the Summer months and the Winter months. During the Summer I have been camping up the Rockies. What a wonderful experience. The altitude certainly gets to you, but the scenery and the fresh air and fishing takes your mind off things. Your body adjusts quickly anyway. During the Winter though, you have skiing to contend with. Within an hours drive from the city, you have several ski slopes to chose from. Denver is only a couple of hours drive away from America's best mountain range. The best mountain being Copper Mountain. The snow is great all throughout the winter and good in Spring. As the mountain range near Denver (the rockies) are taller than the French range (the Alps) there is still snow in April. However in late April that snow tends to disappear and in which means that mountain biking starts. So if you're the type that needs skiing twice a year and can afford to pay for flights to America every year, then it is best that you go to Europe in January/February and America in April.
