Advantages: Almost everything

Disadvantages: The distance between the airport and the city centre

Denver really does have an enormous amount to recoemmend it, with the only thing lacking being a beach! The downtown area, known as LoDo, has been substantially redeveloped over the last 20 years, and there are now two sporting arenas for the city's professional teams (the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche play at the Pepsi Center, which also hosts concerts, whilst the Colorado Rockies play at Coors Field) Indeed it is hard to imagine what it was like before, with the shopping centred around the 16th Street Mall, complete with a free shuttle bus which can take you from one end to to the other if you so desire, and which stops at most intersections. I just love the fact that all of this is in the heart of town, although there are of course also shopping malls in the suburbs, the most notable of which is probably in nearby Cherry Creek. There is an outlet mall in the western suburbs, but beware of a long bus ride to get there if you do not have your own transport.

Probably the biggest drawback of all with visiting this city is the distance from the airport to the city centre, and the inherent cost that this can involve if you cannot face public transport. There is talk of a speedy rail link and it looks like it has been started, but who knows when it may be finished? However this in itself is not a good enough reason to stay away, and when you add the countless above average attractions(zoo, theme park etc) to its usefulness as a base to explore the surrounding area (skiing within two hours, the lovely town of Boulder less than an hour away), it is hard to know why you would not want to visit - I love it there, and will be crossing the Atlantic to spend another couple of weeks there this summer!

Summary: Get there if you have not done so already!

Of course cities don't need beaches, it's just that when people cite ideal places to visit on holidays, they tend to want the lot (beaches, mountains, shopping etc etc) For me Denver has everything you could want apart from a beach. You do not need to apologise for your rating - I was only trying to give an overview of what it had to offer - I wouldn't expect anyone to make a decision on whether to go there based solely on my opinion, but I would hope that it would give them the impetus to go and buy a book about it, for instance.

Do cities need beaches? Sorry for rating, but I really did not get much of an idea about the place from this.
