Having travelled to Holland on numerous occasions I have to say that my favourite place to visit for a short break or a longer holiday is Edam which is just 30mins on the bus from Amsterdam. Edam is a very small picturesque village with very traditional old Dutch properties on cobbled type roads bordering the many dykes. It is very easy to get to everywhere in Edam as there are so many footbridges and little side streets. There are little museums a famous cheese market and some lovely eating places and gift shops as well as the most comprehensive fruit and vegetable shop I have ever seen.
