Advantages: Beautiful Weather, lots to do

Disadvantages: Very VERY touristy.

Maybe that title is a bit harsh, but if you're looking for a big beach full of British tourists, then Eilat should be your first stop. Situated in the southern tip of Israel, Eilat is hot - damn hot! With all the pre-requisite elements of a touristy beach, as well as some stunning scenery and excellent snorkelling facilities, Eilat has something for just about everyone.

There are hotels and guesthouses for families, as well as a number of youth hostels for backpackers - I recommend the "Rainbow Hostel". It's basic, but cheap, clean, and run by a friendly young team of Brits and Israelis.

On the beach you will find an amusement park for the kids - nothing major, but good enough. There's also a large building in the middle of the beach, (you won't miss it)where you can climb up and have a great view of the sea and surrounding land, then climb down into the under-sea part, and watch the sealife in their natural habitat.

There are pubs and clubs for young holiday makers, and the drinks are cheap. Actually, a lot of Eilat is cheap, apart from the package holidays that take you there in the first place. I recommend taking a flight and then finding your own accomodation. Also, it's much cheaper to fly to Tel Aviv, and no problem at all to get down to Eliat in a few hours. You'll save quite a bit doing it that way.

I have never snorkelled in Eilat - but I've always wanted to. It can be quite pricey, but well worth while. It's supposed to be an amazing experience, swimming underwater with the fish. There are plenty of other watersports to try in Eilat, so take plenty of cash and a swimsuit.

If you're looking for a beach holiday, and want to try somewhere new, I can thoroughly recommend Eilat - but if you're looking for True Israeli culture, and to get away from all the English accents you'll have to look a bit further than Eilat (close your eyes, and you could be in Ibiz
