Newest Review: ... the Ionian/ Roman and Greek periods and is hailed as the main town to worship "Artemis of Ephesus' the goddess of hunting and the chase. ---Ephesus and the Bible--- Two important figures of the Christian religion, St Paul and St John, lived in Ephesus. St Paul spent about 5 or 6 years years trying to preach and proclaim this new religion in his workshop in Ephesus. St John spent the last years of his life here, wrote part of the New Testament and also died here. His tomb is on Ayasuluk hill. It is also written in the Bible that the Virgin Mary came to Ephesus following Jesus' Death and you can visit the Virgin Marys house when you ... more

As you probably know if you've read any of my recent reviews i have just recently returned from the South West of Turkey. While in Turkey i was informed by many people i had to visit the ancient city of Ephesus....so this is what i did. From where i was staying in Dalyan it was a 3 and a half hour bus journey to Ephesus but this did include half an hour stop off for breakfast and another stop in Izmir so id say it was probably about 2 and a half hours away driving solidly. --- The Excursion--- We booked the excursion to Ephesus through Thomas Cook this included entry to Ephesus and Pammakule, 5 meals and staying in a 5 star hotel over night between ...  Read the complete review

Throughout my life I haven't done as much travelling as I would have wished or expected to do, a matter that I hope to have rectified over the coming years. However all of the places that I have visited have remained memorable in nature, none more so than the breathtaking ancient ruins of "Ephesus." Situated outside the Turkish town of Selcuk, Ephesus lies approximately one hours drive away from the popular tourist resort of Kusadasi and a maximum of 3 hours from the resorts of Marmaris and Bodrum. Dating back to 10BC, Ephesus in its day was one of the greatest sea ports of the ancient world. A surprising fact now that the location is a ...  Read the complete review

I visited Ephesus in May 2008 as part of a circular trip starting in Antalaya, Pamukkale, Bodrum and Perge. Of all the sights of Turkey I have visited (having not yet been to Istanbul) Ephesus is, for me, the one that stands out. Before reaching the Roman site of Ephesus I first went through Selcuk which is two miles to the west of the sight. Selcuk has a couple of notable tourists attractions itself. I was specifically here to visit the ancient Basilica of St John which stands on top of the hill to the north of Selcuk. It is from this hilltop that St. John is said to have written his gospel and the Basilica was once one of the great pilgrimage sites. Now ...  Read the complete review

Temple of Artemis, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world is in Ephesus, Turkey. I went there in the spring of 1998. Ephesus Old City is a ruin. However, you can see the ruins of old public library, the wide pedestrian pavement, housing estates, the gigantic auditorium and theatre, market, schools and even public toilet. When you walk through these ruins, you would have the feeling of travelling back to time. It was a mixed feeling for me. I sighed, I was thinking of the people who were walking on the pavement that I stood thousands year ago. Time passes, so fast and yet leaving trails of stories of this great civilisation. It was once near the sea. However, ...  Read the complete review
