Fiji can be found in the South Pacific and can be reached by flights from Los Angeles and Auckland. On arrival at about 3am, we were greeted by a traditional band playing music while we waited to go through customs, a great first impression. We flew in to the main airport in Nadi and stayed nearby. Nadi is a small town with all the amenities you need. A great attraction here is the temple, it is so colourful! Our stay here is best split in to two parts. 1) We stayed at a hostel about 10 mins from Nadi town centre. “There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going,” read the Thought for the Day in the Fiji Times. This at least gave me something to think about as my wife and I lounged by the pool at the Tanoa International Hotel just outside Nadi. Having travelled half-way around the world in just two days to be there, I was inclined to think that we had indeed taken a short cut. The first visitors to these shores from Europe took years over the journey, and suffered on the way. Last year I travelled around the world. Singapore, Bali, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and LA but Fiji was simply breath taking. All of the places I visited had a beauty and a uniqueness about them. For instance I loved Hawaii because it was so laid back and had that tacky but lovable touristy thing going for it. I loved New Zealand because of its amazing countryside and the vitality dripping from the greeness of its rolling hills to the pureness of its lakes and valleys.
