FranceNewest Review: ... when I was looking for a tiny hamlet that was not on any of the maps I possessed. France is renowned for its cuisine and fine wines, and visiting a vineyard is one of the greatest of pleasures. You are invited to taste every one of the wines being produced and there is nothing better than sitting sipping a fine wine in the sun whilst looking across at the vines from which the wine has been ... more |

France is my favourite country to visit; I have been several times but, sadly, have not been able to explore all of it. It is a country vastly bigger than the UK but with roughly the same number of people living in it. I have a house in south-west France that is being slowly and surely renovated. The house is near Parthenay which is about thirty miles south of Poitiers. We have friends who live near Samur, a little further up-country, so these are the areas I have got to know well. South-west France has what is known as a 'micro-climate' and is the second sunniest part of the country after the south of France itself, but you need to drive down as ... Read the complete review

I found the so called article about France offensive. You can tell it was written by a girl who need to grow up>(boyfriend!!?) and who needs to learn how to spell. If people would learn a few things before traveling maybe they wouldn't have these problems? First, make an effort to learn a few words of ANY language of the country you are visiting. I found people in France very nice, pleasant and very helpful. Once they could see I was trying to speak their language they started laughing(along with me) and helping me. The country is very beautiful. Because I was nice to them and pleasant I was invited to their homes, into parts of museums etc.. the public do not ... Read the complete review

When I was eleven years old, on my first day at grammar school, we began French, and a passion for the language began which is still with me. As I progressed up the school, I had my first encounters with French literature, and then began to travel in France, first hitching, later camping with my children, and now going as I please. Of all the things I love about this magnificent country, its literature, its food, the fascinating history, the clever, witty people, nowhere quite encapsulates what I feel like Monet's garden at Giverny, in Normandy. Normandy is a special place. Many of France's greatest writers came from there. It has its own strong ... Read the complete review

Im going to keep this short. i dont feel it is necessary to give you a 10000 sa on my last holiday to France. I think people who do that generally speaking, are the kind of people that you invite to your house for a dinner party, and bring THEIR holiday photos with them. 'this is me and John up the eiffel tower' 'this is me and john in a lovely french restaurant. oh the locals are so friendly (ahem...in france.... i think not)you wouldny believe. ' You know what i mean. you know where they could put the eiffel tower dont you? So, i wont bore you. I didnt go to any museums on fench pastry makers from the 18 century. Although ... Ask anyone to name some famous artists and the chances are that Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso and Vincent Van Gogh would be mentioned so having the chance to see some of their work as well as the places where they did their work couldn’t be missed. My week long trip was to be mainly based on discovering the worlds of Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh but would include the sites of Paris and the museum in Paris dedicated to Picasso’s work. My base was Senlis, about an hour north of Paris. Senlis is a very picturesque town, full of cobbled streets and a wonderful church and train station. It is a very nice place to walk around with fabulous back ... Read the complete review
