FrankfurtNewest Review: ... façade made entirely of glass, with 200m it‘s only the fourth highest building in Frankfurt but the only one that has a publicly accessible viewing platform (with a restaurant), some 300,000 visitors come every year (4,60 €, concessions 3,10 €, open from 10am-9pm). Some of the other high-rise buildings have acquired a certain fame in Germany, we often see them in films, the Commerzbank Tower ... more |

Calling Frankfurt Mainhattan is the same as calling some stinking canals Little Venice or a range of mounds a bit higher than a molehill Switzerland. Everything is relative, as no other German city has more high-rise buildings than Frankfurt (which has 50 in the centre) and the city lies on the banks of the river Main, Mainhattan it is. What do people associate with Frankfurt? Sausages obviously and then the international airport and banks (they own most of the high-rise buildings), some may be able to add Stock Exchange and City of the Euro which goes in the same direction. There are more than 400 banks which are responsible for the city’s other nickname ... Read the complete review

As per my previous op, we were off to Frankfurt for holiday. We reached Stansted airport and checked in. Whilst the checking, my wife decided to take my son and her sister to shop around. Unexpectedly, the lady behind the desk demanded to see everyone who was travelling. So I asked my brother to get my wife and the rest. Then she demanded to see according to the passport she was holding. When it came to my son I just carried him up and showed him to her and she just laughed. Everything was cool. I guess all this fuss was due to what happened in Newyork. We were given the gate number. So we decided to head off towards ... Read the complete review

There are few good things about Frankfurt; two to note are the airport (10 mins away, taxi DM45, train DM6) and the Hauptbahnhof. The entrance to Frankfurt from the main station (Hauptbahnhof) leads either into a warren of an underground shopping centre, where you can watch the transport police guard over drug deals, or into the red light district for the city. Attractive. From the station, there is no more than a 20 min walk to anywhere of interest. Either way, the best way is to get out of this area quickly; take a tram, taxi, anything. Frankfurt is divided by the Main (hence Frft am Main), with the burgeoning financial centre and cathedral on the ... Read the complete review

So, this is my first ever opinion on Dooyoo.uk - I hope you'll forgive me any mistakes, my English is just a tad rusty... Seeing as I live in Frankfurt an was born close by, I thinks it's only fair that I write something nice about it ;-) When you arrive at Frankfurt, you'll most probably hit the Main Train Station at one point or another. And --- this, I admit, is not the best place to detect the city's charme. Around the train station (Hauptbahnhof) is the red-light-district, so watch out for pick-pockets and don't get put out by any drug-addicts you might see. They are there, but mostly harmless. The station ... Read the complete review

Frankfurt has about 650.000 inhabitants and is the fifth biggest city of Germany. You probably arrive at the airport which is the second largest –behind Heathrow- of Europe. Many people say that the city of Frankfurt is somewhere in the suburbs of the airport. Enough said? Maybe, nevertheless I will continue. From the airport, trains (S8 and S9, direction Offenbach or Hanau) take you in about 15 minutes to the city of Frankfurt. Get out at Hauptwache and you are in the very city centre. Around this kind of square (completely messed up in the Sixties) you find any kind of stores. Next to the huge Kaufhof-store Les Facettes is situated, an interesting mall ... Read the complete review
