Advantages: plenty to do, loads of shops and nice restaurants, loads of quirky shops

Disadvantages: I may be a little rose tinted...

One of my favourite places in the world is Freiburg. When I was younger we used to go on holidays travelling all round Europe in our car, usually staying with Eurocamp, but occasionally splashing out on a hotel. Freiburg was one of the times (and a few times after this) that we "spalached out" on a hotel. A novotel to be exact, we're classy like that. ahem.

Anyway, Freiburg is a beautiful city and from the times I've been it seemed to me to be very metropolitan. There are many shops there and hundreds of little back alleys where you find amazing shops full of old cuckoo clocks, or antiques or wonderful little restaurants.

Guidebooks don't usually give it amazing marks, but to me Freiburg is amazing. As a child/teenager Freiburg was exciting as it offered loads of things to do and loads of things to see so it kept me happy. I wouldn't reccommend spening all of your time in Freiburg on a holiday, but its definately worth a look-in. Try it!
