Advantages: lots of sun!, makes you worldly wise and very grateful

Disadvantages: heartbreaking at times, the lucky boys are a pain

We visited Gambia in March last year and absolutely loved it. Our children were 8 and 4 at the time and we couldn't have met such nice happy people as we did in this country.

The weather was as you would imagine, very hot!, outside our room were Mango trees which would have been great if we had gone a bit later in the year as they weren't ripe when we stayed.

You have to be careful out of your main complex because you always get accosted by the luck boys who want to be your friend, if you tell them to sod off (in a nice way!) then they leave you alone but if this kind of thing bothers you then you can get a bit nervous by it.

We did suffer with the dreaded banjul belly so take plenty of immodium, but the food was great and what you have to remember about Gambia is that these people are very poor and have nothing, they see westerners as very rich (in fact you feel like a celeb visiting here) try to get out into the real Gambia and see how these people live, it's very humbling

Summary: fantastic experience for our kids to see how lucky they are compared to others

I am glad you had a lovely holiday. But I didn't think there was enough information here for this to be a useful review for somebody considering a trip to this unusual holiday destination. A few tips on practical matters and what there is to do would be very interesting for example.
