Breathtaking! And you might spot a bear! (Glacier National Park)

Advantages: fantastic wildlife and scenery Disadvantages: none! I visited glacier national park two years ago with my family. We were visiting family in Montana and took a day trip to the park to go white water rafting. Rafting was a great way to see the park, especially as we went in summer when the river was low to there were only rapids downstream and we spent the morning drifting on quiet water, watching the scenery and wildlife. As it was summer, the snow had melted but the river was still freezing (as I found out when my Dad pushed me in at the end!) but we still caught glimpses of glaciers up in the surrounding mountains. I was determined to see a bear in my two weeks in Montana and sure enough, on the edge of the canyon, there was a small black bear amongst the pines which we all watched with awe. There were plenty of prey birds circling and deer around too but the bear really made my day! After stopping on the river bank for a bbq, we carried on downstream and entered the rapids which were a fantastic, adrenaline pumping hour or so to end the day! The guides were young, local (and v.attractive!) and told us lots of interesting wildlife/nature facts and local legends. Summary: Great for wildlife/nature spotters |
