As Suki212 wants to hear about my opinion, I have decided to add some of my views. (updated on 25-8-01) Goa is one place I would never say no to go to. It is Heaven. Why? Well I used to live there after I got married. The reason being, my husband comes from Goa. Ever since I was a little girl, I had a dream of going to Goa. But you know what the elders are like. They try to be overprotective. Whilst I was visiting Bombay in India, I had decided to go to Goa, as it is not that far away from Bombay. But unfortunately, I was refused to go to. I was really angry. Couldn’t do anything and felt helpless. Never mind! I said to myself. I carried on visiting the rest of India until I met my Primary Teacher. She asked me all sorts of questions and suddenly she popped up a question. ‘I have a cousin who is single, are you interested in meeting him?’ I had no plans in getting married but didn’t say any to her. So I agreed to meet him and guess what? I got married to the bloke. I will give you one wild guess where he came from? YEP you guessed it absolutely right. Goa. OOH! I was on my way to Goa. My husband had rented this nice flat in a village called Shangoolda which was not very far away from the capital of Goa. But having said that, if you don't have a vehicle, you are stuck at home. My husband had a Honda Motorbike. He used to leave early for work and me. I used to stay home and do all the house work. Also there was no telephone there, so I did feel a bit lonely sometimes. If I ever had to go to the town, I would have to stand outside on the main road, staring at those Cashew nuts trees and the traffic passing by. If you are lucky, you get a lift in no time. But sometimes you feel oh common somebody give me a lift. The best part is that the people there are all very nice. We used to go to various beaches in the evenings and
watch the sunset. It was like heaven. Very quiet and every body is enjoying themselves. After a few months, I managed to get a job in one of the IT Institutes as a teacher. No I am not a Teacher as a Profession. Its just that, I knew Lotus 123 and they needed someone to teach and I needed money. Ok enough of my story. Here are some facts of Goa. --------------------------------------------- FACTS --------------------------------------------- More than a million people visit Goa every year. The State Capital of Goa is called Panaji. Goa is situated on the West Coast of India between the borders of Maharashtra and Karnataka. Portuguese czars colonised and ruled Goa. They ruled almost for 450 years. Not only that it was ruled by various Hindu and Muslim Kings. In 15th Century, Vasco De Gama was the first person to have travelled via the sea route directly from Portugal to Goa- India. The town that he lived in was named after him as VASCO DE GAMA. It has a population of both Catholics and Hindus with 2 Districts, 31 towns and 383 Villages. Goa, with its natural scenic beauty, attractive beaches, churches and temples famous for its architecture, feasts and festivals and above all hospitable people with a rich cultural milieu, has an ideal tourist profile. --------------------------------------------- Temperature in Goa --------------------------------------------- The Temperature in Goa is 34° C maximum and 20° C minimum. The Rainfall is moderate in May – June and increases in July-August and becomes moderate in September-October. But the beauty of it is when you are riding across the bridge (sorry I can’t remember the name of the bridge), on one side; it is raining heavily and on the other, not a single drop. It is probably best to go there during November to February. Their winter season is not that cold. So Tr
opical clothing throughout the year would be fine although some light woollen clothes are recommended. --------------------------------------------- Population --------------------------------------------- The population there speaks various languages like Konkani, Marathi, English, and Portuguese. --------------------------------------------- Tansport --------------------------------------------- Transport that can be used whilst in Goa BY AIR (Dabolim Airport) Indian Airlines to Mumbai, Bangalore, Cochin, Delhi, Chennai, Mangalore and Trivandrum. BY RAIL (Vasco & Margao stations) to Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Mysore, Pune, Secunderabad, Tirupati. BY ROAD Connected by good motorable Roads with all the major towns in India via the National Highways. BY SEA (Catamaran Service (A/c) by Damania Shipping (I) Ltd.) To Mumbai but only during October to May. --------------------------------------------- Recommendation --------------------------------------------- I would personally recommend you to go there and stay near a beach. The beaches there have very beautiful vast blue sea and golden sand. Especially Leela Beach Resort is beautiiful and ofcourse the charges are beautiful too. Also Goa is famous for fish. Don’t ask me which fish because I don’t eat it. But my husband does. I shall ask him and add when I get a chance. One restaurant called Branco is famous for fish dishes.
