Gorges du Tarn (Cevennes) ... Midi-Pyrénées), right tributary of the Garonne. The Tarn River runs in a roughly westerly direction, from its source at an altitude of 1,550 m on Mont Lozère in the Cévennes mountains (part of the Massif Central), through the deep gorges and canyons of the Gorges du Tarn (that cuts through the Causse du Larzac), to Moissac in Tarn-et-Garonne, where it joins the Garonne River 4 km (2.5 miles) downstream the center of town.

If you follow the recommendation of my recent review and visit the Cévennes, you really should take a look at the nearby Gorges du Tarn (not strictly part of the Cévennes though bits are encompassed in the National Park). This advice will probably not come as a surprise to you, for the gorges of the upper Tarn river have long been renowned as among the most spectacular in Europe, but it is advice that should be followed all the same. * It is nearly thirty years since I first drove down the Tarn gorges.
