GothenburgNewest Review: ... is a very cosmopolitan area. Here you will find many more interesting little shops, along with Gothenburg’s red light district and sex shops! Gustav Adolf's square often has a large market at the weekend, with stalls selling many handmade crafts and foods. **Museums** Gothenburg is home to many interesting museums, many of them concentrating on the maritime and industrial side of ... more |

I am currently living in Sweden and one of my favourite places to visit is Gothenburg, or to give it its Swedish name ‘Göteborg’ (pronounced Yur-te-boy). Gothenburg is a compact town with less than a million inhabitants, but it still has plenty to keep you occupied... **History** Gothenburg was designed by the Dutch in 1621 and bears more than a passing resemblance to Amsterdam, with pretty tree lined avenues running alongside the many canals. Gothenburg made its name during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries as an industrial and trading centre, and the British, Dutch and German traders who settled in Gothenburg left a rich architectural and ... My partner and I wanted to get away just before Christmas for a romantic weekend away, ideally in Germany so we could visit one of the quaint Christmas markets, but thanks to poor flight times and inconvenient airport locations we decided to trash that idea... and looked around for a low cost alternative to Germany. We flew with Ryanair from Glasgow Prestwick to Gothenburg City Airport for £50 return each inc taxes, but if you book at the right time you could fly for just the taxes (about £20!). It was absolutely fantastic experience, and one that I will remember for many years to come. We arrived in Gothenburg on by plane (Ryanair) from Stansted airport (£120 pair of tickets), and arrived in Sweden on time. The airport could be discribed as a cow shed, but we were on time and our friends were there to greet us off the plane. Our hotel itself was a ship, docked in the harbour. Ibis, which apparently is a chain of hotels in Sweden. ... Read the complete review

I have just recently returned form a long weekend in Gothenburg, Sweden. This was by far not my first visit there as I attend the Gothia Cup - One of the biggest soccer youth tournaments in the world - pretty much every year. This time as I was not working I had much more time to experiance this most beautifull city. Firstly, the accomodation over there varies form hostels to 5* luxury. I am lucky that contacts I have over there enabled me to stay in the SAS Raddison near to the Central Station in the heart of the City. This hotel was used by US President George W Bush when he attended the recent G8 summit. Landvetter Airport (GOT) has a vast array of hotel ... Read the complete review
