Advantages: People, City, Nightlife
Disadvantages: Expense
I have just recently returned form a long weekend in Gothenburg, Sweden. This was by far not my first visit there as I attend the Gothia Cup - One of the biggest soccer youth tournaments in the world - pretty much every year. This time as I was not working I had much more time to experiance this most beautifull city. Firstly, the accomodation over there varies form hostels to 5* luxury. I am lucky that contacts I have over there enabled me to stay in the SAS Raddison near to the Central Station in the heart of the City. This hotel was used by US President George W Bush when he attended the recent G8 summit. Landvetter Airport (GOT) has a vast array of hotel information on arrival and on many occasions it is cheaper to arrange this when you arrive and not in the UK!!!!! Also i promise you the currency exchange rate is far better in Sweden BUT if you obtain cash over there with your Credit Card the rate used is your Credit Card companys which can be pretty poor. Best thing you can do is take sterling to Forex - this is a massive chain of currency exchange bureau's. This City has so much to offer form Botanical Garden's to Museums to Woodland to Fantastic night life - and i mean fantastic. One area you must visit is Kungsports Avenyne or ''The Avenue'' - it is the main strip of bars and retaurants in Gothenburg. Some great restaurants here are Babas (If you want to have a romantic meal) or maybe The Rose and Crown if you want a traditional English meal Swedish style!!!! For Nightlife my reccomondations are for sure Avenue10 on the Avenue, Nivo on the Avenue, Vasastan a few blocks from the Avenue on KarlGustavsGatan and most definately Treggarn (Garden). This is a massive indoor/outdoor nightclub close to the Ullevi Stadium - simply breathtaking. The only downsides to Sweden is the expense. Yes, beer does cost around £3 buy I tell you it's worth it...... Oh and did I tell you how friendly Swedish people
are!! The flight over there is around 1 hour 30mins and if you take the 'Airporter Bus' form Landvetter to the City it only costs SEK50 (around £3.22) compared to a cab which costs SEK275 (around £17.74)!!!! Even if it was a top of the range Merc. as they all seem to be in Sweden!!!! A bit different to our Ford Escorts!!! That's the thing - for a trip with a difference try Gothenburg - you wont be dissapointed. Ashers
