I visited Gran Canaria 2 years ago. I was there for 2 weeks in September. I had a brilliant time but several things annoyed me about the place, that would tell me not to go back there. We bought a package holiday - never again.

We stayed in the Los Salmones apartments near the Irish Centre. They looked nice and had a nice pool, but were very small and stuffy. It was like staying in a stables. There was no air conditioning, and so the nights were extremely hot. Without plenty of booze sleeping was a bit tough.

The Irish Centre was brilliant fun. Lots of bars with plenty of drinks promos. But the toilets were the smelliest I have ever seen! Only one toilet for the whole building. The women had to queue the longest and because they turned the running water off at night, no toilet would flush - now imagine the smell!

Other than that, the beach was beautiful, and the craic was mighty. But if I was to go again, I would not be doing a package holiday deal. I'd book my own hotel or villa to have some comfort for those hangover days.

I'd recommend it as a holiday destination, but choose your accommodation wisely.
