Granada (Spain)

Newest Review: ... century palace, Casa de los Tiros, built like a fortress and named after the musket barrels bulging from its facade. Inside, the grand stairway is hung with portraits of Spanish Royals who all look rather grim, even Ferdinand and Isabela, who I always thought were the Posh and Becks of their time but they don't look like it - far too miserable. The major features are the magnificent carved ceiling and the Hall of Gold, which is decorated with gold lettering. Interesting to see the old photos and lithographs showing how Granada used to be in the 19th centuries. Open Mon - Fri from 2.30 - 8pm. Entrance fee 2 euros Many tiny lanes cross... more

Premium Review Granada (Spain): An Old City set on Three Hills in Southern Spain (2327 words)

For many years travelling through Spain we always avoided Granada. Why? The thought of walking around this great city looking at its treasures along with thousand of other tourists always put me off especially in the mid July heat. I am so glad that I changed my mind and plucked up courage to take the task in hand because this is a beautiful city, one of the most beautiful in Europe. The Alhambra and Generalife are the reason most visitors come here, but Granada has much more to offer and the old city is worth exploring. My review is about the sights in the old town and around. The Alhambra and Generalife Gardens are too big a topic to add to this review so ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Granada, a great city break destination (247 words)

Granada is one of the most beautiful cities that I have visited, and definitely the most beautiful that I have visited in Spain. (I have visited Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Cordoba, Seville and Malaga). It's location at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountain range is stunning. I visited in March and there was still snow on the mountain tops although it was in the mid-twenties in the city itself. Although certainly no match for any alpine resorts, you can ski in the Sierra Nevada so could be an ideal short ski/city break destination. The Alhambra palace is simply breathtaking, particularly if you walk up the hill opposite. I recommend being there at sunset, it really is ...  Read the complete review

I spent several years in Granada (southern Spain) - and I loved it! Firstly, Granada is a province - and there is also a city called Granada in the province, which is its capital. This is a review of the province. Some people make the mistake of thinking that Granada is just a town! ;-) This part of Spain is great in so much as it's easily reached by 3 different airports. You can fly directly to Granada Airport itself ( or fly into Malaga (1hr away) or Almeria (2 hrs away) and drive down ) ...from Granada Airport it takes about 1/2 hour to reach the city of Granada - and another 1/2 hour to make your way up the mountain road for all the ski ...  Read the complete review

Granada is one of the most beautiful and historical cities in Spain. Its arquitecture is very moorish from when the moors invaded Granada in the 8th Century. The best place they left for us to enjoy was the Alhambra. The Albaizyn also is a historical mark they left on this beautiful city (I have not been yet so can't write about it I'm afraid). Granada also has many small towns full of historical value. The Alhambra palace is an all day visit as is very big. It is beautiful and has a great arquitecture. It is an all day visit as the palace and gardens are immense. I warn you it is a lot of walking and if doing it in summer take a lot of water with you, ...  Read the complete review

Granada is situated in the Andalucia region of Southern Spain. It is at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, which is great for skiing. I went here on trip with some of my Spanish class a few years ago. We loved the place! The city itself obviously has some rather poor looking areas as there are alot of people living in such close proximity in high rise flats but once you get into the city centre it really is a beautiful place. Typically Spanish. The city is steeped in very rich history. It is most famous for it's moorish citadel and palace, The Alhambra. A little part of the city has retained all the original Moorish buildings, it is known as the ...  Read the complete review
