Advantages: its beautiful
Disadvantages: none
Granada is situated in the Andalucia region of Southern Spain. It is at the foot of the Sierra Nevada, which is great for skiing.
I went here on trip with some of my Spanish class a few years ago. We loved the place!
The city itself obviously has some rather poor looking areas as there are alot of people living in such close proximity in high rise flats but once you get into the city centre it really is a beautiful place. Typically Spanish.
The city is steeped in very rich history. It is most famous for it's moorish citadel and palace, The Alhambra. A little part of the city has retained all the original Moorish buildings, it is known as the Albaicin. There is also a beautiful vantage point near this area which gives stunning views of the Alhambra. This is heading up towards the Sacromonte area which was mainly inhabited by "los gitanos"/gypsies. They lived, and some still do, in cave houses which are dug into the hillside. Many of these old houses have been turned into clubs and pubs which are very popular with the students at Granada University.
The shopping here is excellent...as are the restaurants and little tapas bars. I cannot fault the place at all!
I loved the place so much that this is what I did my A level Spanish oral presentation on.
I really want to return sometime soon and I am considering studying at the University for one year of my law degree :)
Summary: i can't wait to go back!
