Me being from Guatemala City, I would probably describe perfectly how Guatemala City really is.

I've lived in Guatemala all my life I went to live in Guatemala when I was two years of age and this year is the first year that I have not been home. Guatemala City is what I consider "home". I think Guatemala is my home because to me Guatemala City is perfect. But we know as a fact that Guatemala City is not perfect. Guatemala right know is going though a really bad phase a new president was elected " Alfonso Portillo" and he is "ripping the country apart". I say this because the economy of the city is going down, the dollar is going up and unemployment is everywhere. I keep well informed about the economic status of Guatemala because my father is still in Guatemala. The city has gone though a number of changes in the last couple of years. Guatemala is influenced completely by the U.S. Some of the changes that Guatemala City is going though is the change of enterprises, new enterprises are coming into Guatemala to set up there own companies they do this because Guatemala in the most advances City in the entire Central America. This does not mean that it is the biggest or the most populated city in Central America. The city in a way is over crowded people come to the city to find a better life style. They leave their small towns and invade the city, as the people are poor they find any possible land available mainly in the poorest part of the city and set there houses there. The people that invade the city do not travel alone they travel with their entire families and friends so each amount of land they invade is a huge amount of land. This land were the people from the villages invade is not owned by anyone it is owned by the country but when the country sees that more and more people come to there lands, they sell them the land at a small price. They do this because the country cannot take the land from them. They cannot take
the land from them because the "Human Rights" are always protecting the right of native people. Sometimes the Human Rights make things worse.

But Guatemala City is not just about people invading the city it is about its beautiful heritage. Guatemala it self is considered to be a third world country. It is considered to be a third world country because the level of education is low only people who can afford to pay school get a good education. Public Schools in Guatemala City are basically “rubbish”.

The city is divided in zones, the entire city has 21 zones. Different things classify each zone and everyone in the city knows which zones are regarded as better places to live in. Maybe the most popular zone within the tourists is zone 10. This is a zone that if you go to the city you will not want to miss. Zone 10 has all the night life that you would wish for, it basically has everything.

Guatemala City has a lot of things that are a quite not desirable for a city but every city will have its bad things. But what I think that makes Guatemala so special is the people in the city. Guatemalan people have a joke that goes " When God was creating the world and he was planning to create Guatemala he gave all the most beautiful things that he could imaging he gave them mountains, rivers, good lands everything it gave everything to Guatemala but then God thought I have given all the best things to this small portion of land so to make things even he gave the beautiful lands the worst people he could think of " . The joke does not really sound funny in English but that basically is the Joke. Most of the people think the same way as the joke, they say that people in Guatemala are rude and corrupt. But I think people like that you will find everywhere in the world. But what I think is that the people of Guatemala are helpful and very much polite. But what I will tell you is that people in Guatemala are bad tempered so
they mite be very helpful but if you get them on a bad day you will probably think the same way as the joke.

But in conclusion Guatemala City is a city that is beautiful in every way. I think that Guatemala is a perfect place to grow up in but you have to see it for yourself.
