Disadvantages: We found it dirty and were hassled

I stayed in Gumbet in 1997 and have to say I did not enjoy it much at all.
The apartments we stayed in were very basic and were only swept quickly each day instead of being cleaned properly. The water was solar heated so if we didn't get a shower early, the water was freezing. We also had a problem with cochroaches which nothing was done about.
We endured a lot of hassle while going out each night to go to different bars and shops and were not allowed to enjoy our meals in peace as were pestered by people selling jewellery and other goods.
A short ride away was the resort of Bodrum which is bigger with more bars etc.
There is a day trip from Bodrum to Kos which we went on and really enjoyed. We also went on a boat trip which showed us lots of different coves and allowed us to snorkel in the sea.
One thing Turkey is good for is the jewellery from the proper jewellery shops. We bought a gold bracelet which when valued back in England, should have cost three times more than we paid for it.
I think we would have enjoyed it more if it was cleaner and we didn't get hassled so much.
