I went to Hamburg for my brothers stag do in October.I am open to what you might find in such a city and did really not expect to find so many sex shops and prostitution and homeless people!I nearly had my shirt ripped of by one woman but would say that was my only downpoint of the weekend! The hotel we stayed in was nice and the bars and clubs we went to were lively enough and there was plenty of friendly people about and it wasnt until you just stood for a minute and admired all the picturesque buildings and places you could visit! The bars that we visited were mainly English or Irish themed but there were others bars that we ventured to that seemed to have plenty of ... I've just come back from 24 hours in Hamburg, my train arrived at 3 pm and I left the following day at about the same time. Can one get a more than superficial impression of such a big city, the second largest German city (~ 1,8 million inhabitants) after Berlin, in such a short time? I think so, after all tourists are only interested in the city centre, who'd want to visit the suburbs, which are more or less the same everywhere in the world anyway? It may help that this was already my third visit and I've developed a kind of ritual at least for the beginning of my trip. I leave my luggage in a locker at the train station, go to the Tourist Information there ... Read the complete review

Waterways, parks, culture, and the red light district - welcome to a weekend in Hamburg. This city in northern Germany is perhaps not a popular weekend getaway destination but in some ways that is a shame as you can certainly have a great time there (as we did). On the other hand there are other cities both in Germany and other countries in Europe that probably have more impact or ‘wow’ factor. Perhaps therefore I would say that Hamburg is a great place to visit for a short trip if you have already explored a lot of other European destinations, or if you if you a little more time to look around the region. Lufthansa offer reasonably priced direct flights from ... Read the complete review

Hamburg has charm, a big night live and interesting buildings. But this I will tell you in the next line's: 1) In Hamburg you must see the harbour. At the harbour you must go to the Landungsbruecken and make a sightseeing tour by water, but not with the big ships, you must go on the small ships. 2) In St.Pauli is the sex night live, the cats musical and the hamburger wax figure cabinet, but Madam Toussead in London is grater and better. 3) Between the harbour and St. Pauli there is the Church of St. Michael the one with the emblems of Hamburg 4) In the city by the city hall and the Alster, there are a lot of warehouses and other ... Contrary to popular belief Hamburg is not all Reeperbahn, prostitutes and seedy sex!!!! It is a city of great contrast and has many things to see and do for your average 'non-sex' tourist. Hamburg has a great nautical tradition which is mirrored in the many sights that can be visited around the city. To get a true feel for the maritime past, why not take a 'Barkasse' tour from 'Landungsbrücken'. The tour will take you through the tax free old port (Speicherstadt) as well as around the modern habour and ship building areas. The Speicherstadt is littered with museums devoted to trade from the bizarre, specialised Spice museum to the more ... Read the complete review
