Hokkaido is Japan's northernmost island, but Cape Soya situated in the northern extremity of the island is in the lower latitude than Paris, and Sapporo City is in the same latitude as Marseilles in southern France. It is cool and comfortable in summer and you can enjoy any kind of winter sports in winter. Hokkaido is bounded by the Sea of Okhotsk on the east, the Sea of Japan on the west, and the Pacific on the south. The Sapporo Snow Festival (the Yuki Matsuri), which is now world-famous, takes place in February every year, and recently the number of visitors from Asia has increased.
