Honduras. During our tour of Central America we spent about two weeks in Honduras. I cannot say that I saw a lot of Honduras, but what I did see was worth writing about. My girlfriend and I had met a couple in Guatemala and we decided that we would travel together into Honduras. The journey into Honduras was a difficult and stressful one, it involved two boats, two taxi’s, two busses (one of which caught fire!) and an hours walk in the scorching 40 degree midday sun. Eventually we ended up in Amoa, where we rested our tired feet for a few days. Amoa is a small Honduran fishing town, surrounded by Jungle filled mountains. Most visits to Honduras are trouble free, according to the Foreign Office. Honduras is the second poorest country in Central America; it has virtually no tourists; The military is tough; The people are shy but friendly. WHY GO THERE? This is an exciting, undiscovered, Central American country. It has the great Mayan city of Copan. There are beautiful beaches. The colonial churches, the villages, the rain forest, the markets and the people are all fascinating. This is more real than Costa Rica. The capital, Tegucigalpa, is a sleepy, run-down, sprawling little city with lots of slum areas. The Parque Central is worth a visit. Otherwise, just stroll. ...  Read the complete review
