IcmelerNewest Review: ... but you could get a fish bowl (about 12 shots of different spirits) for about 20TL. Icmeler Night Life It is much quieter in Icmeler than in neighbouring Marmaris. I recommend the night life for couples and families. There are two night clubs in the town and they are pretty dire. If you can go on holiday and have fun, making the best out of the night life, then this is a great fun place, ... more |

After years of Spain and Greece, I wanted to try something different for my holiday this year. My partner suggested we venture to Turkey. For some reason, I have always had a preconceived idea of the place, one which isn't pleasant, hence my choice not to holiday there for 25 years! My partner though convinced me that it's not all Turkish men leering at women, greasy food and heat too hot to handle. So I decided to give it a try after all, she was paying! Flight and Transfer Time We flew from Durham Tees Valley to Dalaman via Onur Air (this is a Turkish airline). The flight itsself was fine, very smooth, but the inflight service and quality was ... Icmeler is still a top tourist resort - though minus a point this time. But words of caution on a couple of points. First - the Bonjour Hotel. First class place for many years, but recently gone totally downhill after a change of management. Management attitudes are now bad, with constant pressure on guests to exclusively use the facilities at the Bonjour. Guests who insist they have a right to eat and drink where they please find the response isn't even polite. A very great shame to see a great hotel go down the tubes. Many guests this month have assured me they'll never be back to that hotel. See also recent reviews (not mine) at ... Read the complete review

I had never even considered going to Turkey before, my previous impression of the country was that it was a bit backwards and dirty. But I was talked into by a friend and his family in the pub one night. He told us that there was group of 16 going in October 2008 and we were welcome to join them, being a bit tipsy, I said yes, but I had to say, I wasn't particularly looking forward to it. We arrived in the middle of the night at Dalaman airport, and our pre-booked small bus was waiting for us, it whisked us and our friends over the mountain road, first to Marmaris to drop off a couple of others, and then on to Icmeler, about another 8 miles further on. After there being so much fuss over Turkey one year I decided I had to go and see what it was all about. I booked with the holiday operator Direct Holidays and then the holiday came so quick and I was at the airport. I flew with Monarch airlines which I had been told were quite good. Leg room was nothing great but still I didn't care. It was a 4 hour journey and entertainment was terrible, things were OK though and it was quite comfortable and the radio was quite good. After the journey was over I landed in Dalaman Airport and set off to my hotel which was the Hotel Gol-Mar. I was quite impressed it was an ok hotel, a pool and a private beach so ... Everything has already been said about the beauty of Icmeler in the other submitted opinions. I will try to help out a little with suggestions of places to eat and drink ,and a couple of other things thrown in! One place we like to go to is OKIMO'S,spotlessly clean and always sure of a warm welcome from Jimmy & Uzlen. the food is always prepared fresh just for you. Jimmy was a Captain in the Turkish Merchant Navy so he can speak perfect English. Another favourite is the POP INN, looks small from the outside but there is plenty of room inside. They offer a very extensive menu, with both Turkish and English food, including mushy peas, if you must! ... Read the complete review
