Advantages: nice boat trips, saw some lovely places

Disadvantages: food, ill part of the trip

After there being so much fuss over Turkey one year I decided I had to go and see what it was all about. I booked with the holiday operator Direct Holidays and then the holiday came so quick and I was at the airport.

I flew with Monarch airlines which I had been told were quite good. Leg room was nothing great but still I didn't care. It was a 4 hour journey and entertainment was terrible, things were OK though and it was quite comfortable and the radio was quite good. After the journey was over I
landed in Dalaman Airport and set off to my hotel which was the Hotel Gol-Mar.

I was quite impressed it was an ok hotel, a pool and a private beach so it was ok but the beach was quite pebbly and nothing great. The hotel reps were not really that friendly and didn't seem welcoming.

I went down to the beach and had a look about also booked some trips with the hotel and then had some day trips. The beach was ok but it got very hot so I usually went for lunch around this time. As night fell I needed to find entertainment and there are so many restaurants and people complimenting you, mainly Turkish men to go to their place. Many places are closed down here
because so much business is going on and if they don't get enough they can't keep the place going. Another thing that changes a lot here is the exchange rate some years you get more for your money than others.

I finally found a place quite full and with good entertainment the music was good and drinks weren't too expensive so I went here most nights.

The sea wasn't as nice at the beach near the hotel, it wasn't as clear as previous holidays. I wanted to see more of Turkey so I went on the boat trips which were ok. I went to the harbour area got on the boat and I was given lunch and was able to get to swim in the sea and have a fun time but
the beaches I was taken to were even worse than mine it was horrible to walk in all stones. The reason
I had taken the trip with my travel company is because I was told I would be conned and not get a better trip with other places.

Many day trips are offered here and after looking I found a good one very busy, good
entertainment on the boat and the beaches I was taken to were nicer. I even got to go to the nicest beach in Turkey after a choppy boat ride and a lovely lunch. This had sand that was as fine as powder and it was so smooth and the sea was crystal clear and not too deep. This was a place for hotels before but then stopped because it scared the turtles away and this is a good part to go to. I also got to go to mud baths which was fun and it was a brilliant day out better than with the travel company.

There is a market on Wednesday's and you can get there by the bus where you pass your money up the bus they are tiny minibuses called dolmus's. This takes you there, I found nothing great with the market, went to another area of Turkey in Marmaris and got to see better shops. I had been told before going on the holiday I would get many reductions but I found once I had seen
one place I had seen them all and it was getting boring, also most are fakes and the shop keepers were creepy apart from some I won?t be nasty.

Once thing which ruined my holiday was the hotel food, even paying 5 star wouldn't have made a difference. It was many things that were not known to me and the food was horrible all Turkish dishes I just wanted some chips and all of the British food which I couldn't have. I took a bit of a cake and it was all greasy at the bottom it was disgusting. I then dehydrated and about fainted at the market. I then had trouble with holiday reps about getting a doctor but I got there and was fine afterwards. Once several members and myself had complained about the food it was finally improved to things like chips and chicken etc. which helped. Breakfast was always very nice so I
won't complain about th
at.

In the area of Icmeler there are a lot of places to eat and you can also buy your own food at a supermarket which I had to do for good food sometimes. There are places like Chinese restaurants which you can get nice food at.

I was relieved when in Marmaris I found a Burger King, so do go there and I would recommend to get lots of water so that you don't become ill and stick to eating foods that you know. Also remember the water there isn't known to be the cleanest ever so buy bottled water.

On the way home the plane had to be sprayed I am guessing this is for hygiene purposes. Once I landed back home I was quite happy and have to say it was an ok holiday but the worst in my experience and I don't think I will ever go back there. Some people are different and love it maybe I am just unusual.
