I'll forever associate Inch'on with the story of a friend of mine who, having accepted a teaching job in the city largely due to the assurance that he would be given a "beachfront apartment", excitedly gazed out of the window of his new home to see hundreds of dead fish being washed up on a black stretch of sand no more than twenty metres wide. This, combined with one description of the city on an internet site as "the armpit of Korea", unsurprisingly gave me a poor impression of the place.
