Angry Chris,
Somewhere in Gateshead,
Tyne and Wear,
England.

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE RT. HONOURABLE ANTHONY CHARLES LINTON
BLAIR, PRESIDENT OF AMERICA’S 51ST STATE, FORMERLY KNOWN AS
GREAT BRITAIN.

Dear Mr President,
I am writing to convey my disgust at the alarming and seemingly inevitable
march to war currently gathering momentum in the Middle East, with the apparent
intent of attacking an old adversary of the West, Iraq.

It appears at this stage that a variety of steps have been taken to ensure the smooth
handing over of our most elite forces and weaponry to the military “might” of the
worlds only superpower, the United States of America, and it’s rookie leader,
George.W. Bush.

This, it appears, seems to be against the wishes of a sizable amount of the British
public, which is either a substantial minority or a large majority, depending upon the
source you wish to believe.

I wish to take a moment of your time, Mr. President, if I may, to explain the idiocy of
your actions, in all their varying forms.

In 1991, the United Nations, and honorable body formed in the shadow of it’s
forefather the League of Nations and set up in the aftermath of the Second World
War, decreed a need for force to remove the invading Iraqi’s from a small, oil rich
nation known as Kuwait, in order to liberate this nation in accordance to the UN
charter as signed by all member nations. This action was successful, and in quick
time, with a thankfully small amount of losses to men fighting on the side of the UN
forces, led by the great world powers of the US, Russia and their allies.

In hindsight, it appears that the UN may have been erroneous in decreeing that to
chase the Iraqi’s across their border and into their country, in an attempt to overthrow
the tyrannical leader, Saddam Hussein, would be
illegal and was not in the spirit of
the United Nations ideals.

The president of the United States, at this time, was one George Bush.

Now, as we all know, on September 11th 2001, two commercial planes were
deliberately flown into the World Trade Centre building in New York, destroying one
of the largest symbols of American capitalist might, and murdering over 2000 people
in the process.

In the aftermath of this atrocity, blame soon became apportioned to Osama bin Laden,
a former member of the Saudi Arabian oil sheiks who was known to American
intelligence cells as the man wanted in connection with the destruction of a number of
US possessions around the world, an embassy and a tanker ship being two such
targets. It was also understood that he was hiding in Afghanistan, a backward country
run by a band of religious fanatics known as the Tailban, and a one eyed leader
known as Omar. It then became clear that the United States, with the sympathetic
backing of the majority of the world community, would seek to destroy the Taliban
and search within the country for Bin Laden, his cronies, and sections of his known
terror group, Al Qaeda.

Afghanistan soon crumbled, the Taliban fled and the US and it’s closest ally, Britain,
proclaimed a great victory. The search then began for the key players in the Al Qaeda
network, culminating in the mass bombardment of the Tora Bora cave network. The
British elite unit, the Marines, were sent in to clear out any remaining pockets of
resistance.

They found nothing. They fired not a single shot.

In fact, the only casualties on the side of the US led armies were a number of
Canadian troops, accidentally bombed by a US plane while they were on training
exercises.

It is at this point, Mr. President, where things started to go slightly awry. For some
reason, the president of the United S
tates, controversially elected on the back of some
strange eligibility criteria in the ultimately crucial state of Florida, decided to return to
the business started by his father in 1991, and declared an “axis of evil”, headed by
that old nemesis, Iraq.

The whole of the last 6 months seems to have been geared into tuning the thoughts of
the world into the evils of the Iraqi regime, and it’s stockpile of “weapons of mass
destruction”. Allow me, Mr. President, to point out a few points at this point.

Firstly, the United States government and the British government know exactly what
weapons are currently in the hands of Saddam. This is due to the absolute fact that
these governments sold them to him in the 1980’s at the height of the Iran/Iraq war, at
a time when Saddam was seen as an oil rich ally of the west, who could be controlled
at America’s will.

The American administration appears to be spearheading some kind of mass “fear”
campaign, similar to that of McArther’s “red’s behind every bush” anti communist
campaign in the 1950s, which is emphasizing the need for pre-emptive attacks against
any country which may pose a threat to the United States in the future. It appears to
be working, with a large proportion of people believing the ideas coming from
Washington. Despite this, Saddam Hussein has never tried, nor has ever claimed to
be planning to try to attack the United States.

The United Sates, as you know I’m sure, has almost exhausted it’s stockpile of crude
oil. It is down to only three hours worth of reserves in a national emergency. Iraq, on
the other hand, is one of the largest owners and producers of oil reserves in the world.

Despite their allusions of military might, the United States killed more allied troops in
both the first Gulf War and the
Afghan war than any enemy fire. This has been given
a wonderfully politically correct name:”Friendly Fire”.

The United Nations and it’s main protagonists, with the exception of yourself, seem at
last not to be bending at every whim on the United States. France and Germany seem
intent on not going to war in Iraq, without full UN resolutions. China and Russia
have also voiced strong disapproval’s of going to war with out a full dossier of clear
evidence from the UN, which has been far from presented at this point.

The US economy is at it’s lowest ebb for decades, and is still reeling from the
Worldcom and Enron scandals among others. The war effort has disguised the US
governments mishandling of the economy, and the mass overspending on defense.

Now, these points, indeed the whole “War on terror”, focuses on the United States
and it’s growing list of enemies. However, in a desperate attempt to cling onto the
“Special Relationship” between our country and the US, YOU, President Blair, have
thrown this country into the front line of the war. A war different from every other
war in history, with no specific country, no pitched battles, no immediate need for the
weapons of war we have known in the past. A war based on intelligence, cunning,
planning and preparation.

It is YOU President Blair, who have endangered the lives of British soldiers, the finest
in the world, in an attempt to keep in the good books of the hawks in the US
administration. YOU are the man who has placed the lives of 60 million British
people at the mercy of fanatical terrorists.

It is YOU who have utterly destroyed the worldwide reputation of this once proud and
mighty country, a country which once single handedly faced down the might of Nazi
tyrany at the zenith of it’s power, a country which has fought off num
erous invasion
attempts in the last 1000 years to become a world power way above the limits of our
tiny Island, by becoming nothing more than the Foreign minister of the US
administration.

It is YOU, President Blair, who has shamefacedly attempted to link the utterly elusive
Osama bin Laden to Saddam Hussein today in a nonsense video recording. As YOU
know, Osama bin Laden is a sworn enemy of Iraq and Saddam Hussein, due to his
Saudi links and distrust of the Iraqi Tyrant. It is YOU who have stationed tanks
outside Heathrow Airport in a pathetic attempt to make the danger to the UK appear
to be far more immediate than you know it actually is.

YOU, President, are the man who has laughed as that arrogant idiot Colin Powell
dismissed the concerns of proud and ancient nations such as France and Germany,
nations who like Britain know the suffering that war will bring. Remember, the US
have never been invaded, on land, by a foreign power in a hostile attempt at conquer.

It is YOU who are helping to seal the fate of the United Nations as a creditable body,
just as with the League of Nations, by openly defying the wishes of the majority of it’s
members and pressing ahead for a war only TWO member countries want.

It is YOU who are creating the best possible pictures for recruitment to Bin Laden’s
group by attacking people he claims as his religious stronghold, while he sits,
unharmed, laughing in his cave at the buffoonery of his enemies.

Along with the US, it is YOU who are setting a most dangerous precedent, allowing
the most powerful nations to march unchecked into any country weaker than them in
a “Pre-emptive strike”

YOU, President Blair, have managed to turn your staunchest ally in the national press,
the Daily Mirror, into your staunchest critic, compiling a petition currently numbering
almost 200,000 people again
st this war.

It is YOU who have turned the machinery of this great, peace loving and democratic
nation into an arm of the US military, against the wishes of many of your
democratically elected people and MP’s.

And it is YOU who, like the great buffoons like Sir Douglas Haig in the Great War,
who will send the sons of this nation, including several friends of mine, into a war
which is unnecessary, dangerous and illegal. All the while, YOU will be sat down in
Downing Street, safe in the knowledge that your sons and yourself will be safe at
home, protected around the clock by the top echelons of the British intelligence.

While I do not doubt that victory will come, it will come at a price. And that price
may be paid by the murder of thousands of innocent Iraqi people, the very people this
war will supposedly liberate. This “collateral damage”, and the blood that is spilt,
will be on YOUR hands.

Believe me, Mr. President, I am not a lily livered liberal, frightened of war at all
costs. As a keen student of recent conflicts, I understand fully the need for military
force as and when, however, this is clearly not the case here. Iraq will not attack the
US or the UK, and Saddam Hussein never will. He is a tyrant, a dictator who loves
power and will do everything he can to keep it. If he unleashes weapons of mass
destruction on his enemies, he knows it will be his end. He does not want that, and
will only use these weapons if it is his final salvo, say if enemy troops are at his front
gate.

Bear this is mind, Sir, when you hand over command of our troops to US command.

Finally, just out of curiosity, where is Osama bin Laden???

Just asking...

I look forward to your reply.

Yours,

Angry Chris.

Angry chris, you need to change your moniker to misinformedchris.

Let me take your allegations about the US one at a time.

First, you claim the US and Britain sold Saddam his weapons of mass destruction. Wrong. the US has never sold Saddam biological or chemical weapons. The US has sold chemicals to Iraq that they could make weapons ought of, but this is a problem since they are multiple use products.

Second, the person you are thinking of was not McArther, but McCarthy. McCarthyism is now mostly practiced by the left. It involves making charges that cannot be backed up by fact, much the way you have done here.

As for your contention that Saddam has never attacked the US or even threatened to attack the US. That is correct. It is also correct he attempted to assassinate former President Bush and in the age of Sept 11th, he represents a threat to everyone in the world as he attempts to get nuclear weapons (remember the 3000 pages of nuclear weapons documents found in an Iraqi scientist house?).

Your claim that the US has three hours worth of oil reserves is absolute nonsense. We import 60% of our oil, but that means we produce over 7 million barrels of oil per day. In addition the strategic reserve now has over 592 million barrels of oil in it. This claim by angry chris is an example of McCarthyism in case you wanted an example of it.

As for your comment on "friendly fire" casualties, I have no idea what point you were trying to make. American military might is pre-eminent in the world today and we appreciate the fact that the British are an ally rather than the French who live under our protection and cry like a spoiled teenager.

As for the United Nations, it will not determine the actions of the United States in our pursuit of security for our country. France, Russian and China all have sweetheart oil deals with Saddam Hussein. If he falls (and he will) these deals become worthless.

Here is a special note regarding France and the UN. France is playing a dangerous game. It might make the UN go the way of the League of Nations. In fact, France was the country that did away with the League as an effective body. When Italy invaded Ethiopia prior to World War II, the LON was ready to impose sanctions especially oil sanctions (Britain pressed to do this). France vetoed the embargo and in fact sold oil to Italy as they steamed back and for between Italy and Ethiopia. France and Germany's stand in the UN is more to emasculate Tony Blair and Britain to insure the EU becomes a creature of France and Germany.

The US economy is NOT at it?s lowest ebb for decades, and is NOT still reeling from the Worldcom and Enron scandals among others. The US economy is in recovery (expanding). The US stock market has been hit badly, by the Enron scandal, but it is still at where it was in 1998 (not decades old numbers).

You claim "The war effort has disguised the US governments mishandling of the economy, and the mass overspending on defense. " NONSENSE. There is overspending, but it isn't on defense. The politicians from both parties have been spending like drunken sailors on all there pet projects. They are using the focus on terrorism to do it and it's working.

Finally, you lambast "President Blair?" I thought he was the Prime Minister? You claim he is putting 60 million Britains in peril due to his support of the US. Perhaps you should read a little. Here is a link to a write up by Stu Taylor and what would happen if the US returned to isolationism. http://nationaljournal.co m/taylor.htm

Try reading it.
