jaipur is a shoppers paradise. there are soo many exotic items to be purchased like jwellery, marble statues, textiles, tye and dye fabrics, leather shoeware, semi precious stones. the main areas are khazano wali ki gali, nehru bazar, chameli market, sanganer. one should be ready to go to small bye lanes and do a lot of scouting. one should not waste time for daily needs items. for that there is a good online shopping site www.jaipurshopping.com. it offers some good paintings also. one should be prepared to do a lot of bargaining. its fun actually. instead of hotels one should stay in paying guest houses they are cheaper and cleaner. and one can get the feel of local ... Yes it really is pink. At least most of the buildings in the walled city are and repainted this way every two years. (It all stems from a royal visit at the start of the last century). Jaipur is a good Indian city to start with. It is not as vast as say Drlhi and is therefore more manageable. The old city is built on a grid pattern of streets and it is less easy to get lost in than many Indian cities. Along these streets you will find enough shops to satisfy the greatest shopoholic and when you are tired a cycle rickshaw is a cheap and interesting way to return to your hotel. What to buy ?
