Description: Jerez de la Frontera is a municipality in the province of Cádiz in the autonomous community of Andalusia in ... more
Jerez de la Frontera ... southwestern Spain. It has become the transportation and communications hub of the province, surpassing even Cádiz, the provincial capital, in economic activity. Jerez de la Frontera is also, in terms of land area, the largest municipality in the province, and its sprawling outlying areas are a fertile zone for agriculture. There are also many cattle ranches and horse-breeding operations.

Premium Review Jerez de la Frontera: a weekend in Jerez- real Sapin done quickly and cheaply (362 words)

For a cost effective trip to Spain over a long weekend I would recommend staying in Jerez de la Frontera. From this authentic non-touristy city famous for its sherry you can easily visit the ancient city of Cadiz to the south and vibrant Seville, to the north. To get the most out of the visit you will need to hire a car at Jerez airport which is a small lowkey airport which will be expanded in the future. In fact, hiring a car from the airport is important for making your weekend work as the lowkey nature of the airport means that public transport to and from the airport has not developed around the needs of the passengers yet. A suggested itinerary ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Much more than a Border Town (2167 words)

I have been travelling to Spain for many years but always by road. I have never in thirty years of travelling to this country ever flown into a Spanish airport not even when on business. I love most areas of Spain but if I had to choose one, it would definitely be southern Spain. Southern Spain is known for its wonderful landscapes and cultured cities like Granada, Cordoba, Seville and Cadiz ...  Read the complete review

Jerez is synonymous with (and is the Spanish word for) sherry. However, this town in Andalucia, Southern Spain, is the home not only of that fortified wine but also of flamenco, Spanish brandy and Andalucian horses. Cheap Buzz flights to the town’s airport have started to put it on the British tourist’s map, and it is within easy distance of the coast and the mountains. HISTORY Jerez de la Frontera dates at least from the time of the Phoenicians, but first rose to prominence under the Moors, who called it Xerix or Sherrich. ‘De la Frontera’ refers to Jerez’s position on the frontier of Moorish Spain, and the Alcazar ...  Read the complete review
