Advantages: Great weather , Lots to do , Friendly people
Disadvantages: Open sewers
I returned from Kavos 5 days ago so I'm going to write this while it's still fresh in my mind! After reading some of the opinions on dooyoo about Kavos i was starting to think that I really wouldn't like this place, however, I was wrong. I went with my boyfriend, friend and her boyfriend, thankfully we weren't all sharing the same appartment! A quick tip for anyone reading this who is thinking of going there, don't book it from a travel agent, their way too expensive, i looked on the net for our holiday and found this one for £145 each. Way cheaper than I've seen some tour operators advertise the same holiday for. Anyway, we arrived in the early hours of the morning after travelling for nearly 17 hours so we were all too tired to go exploring. Our first impressions of Kavos weren't that great but we decided to wait till morning and have a good look around. I woke up to temperatures of 30-32c all week which is 10c more than the average for October. We stayed right on the beach which was another plus point. Palm trees, blue water and nice sand. I can't say that I seen any litter or broken glass at all on the sand which can make your holiday worse. There was plenty to do even in the early hours as most places open early there, even the bars! We booked a boat trip over to mainland Greece which half way through the day, stopped at the Blue Lagoon (apparently it's famous for a film being made there..!) and we got to swim in the lagoon. The water was beautiful, see through blue/green and warm. Then we stopped at Sivota for an hour and a half, a quiet little fishing village on the west coast of Greece where we could shop and have a walk around to see the sights. I would really recommend this trip. It cost us about £10 for 6 hours at sea which is really cheap. Another tip, there are several tour organisers in Kavos so shop about untill you find the cheapest one, we m
anaged to get 5000 drachma (about £10) off our boat trip simply because we spotted another shop offering the same trip at half the price! Kavos does have a lot to offer, beach, bars, sun, water sports, shopping (cheap cigs & alcohol)and the locals are always friendly to you. There are only a few bad things about Kavos - Firstly, the sewers! They have open sewers so at certain points in the street you will see them and smell them! But it isn't as bad as it sounds, only now and again do you actually smell them. The other disadvantage of the sewer system is that their toilets dont work the same as ours. Because the sewers are badly outdated, they can only let water through otherwise they block, meaning that you cant flush toilet paper down them! Every apartment has a bin beside the toilet and yes, that is where the loo roll goes! Sounds disgusting, but you do get used to it, honestly! For a small town, Kavos has a fair amount of traffic passing through, mainly mopeds and coaches picking up or dropping off more tourists! The danger of the traffic is not just because you have to remember they drive on the opposite side of the road, it's because there aren't actually any pavements. When you walk out of a shop or bar you are on the road. This isn't usually too much of a problem as long as you remember to watch out for cars. Apart from the sewers and lack of pavements, I would recommend Kavos as a good holiday destination. There are plenty of bars, some cheap some not so cheap, good shops for groceries, take-aways, restaurants and souveniers and much more to do if you can be bothered to look around for things. Most people would say Kavos is aimed at the young, free and single. I assumed that too, but in actual fact, I seen lots of families with small children, senior citizens, couples and singles which proves there are more things to do in Kavos than get drunk every night and party.
r> To me, Kavos wasn't what i anticipated, it was better and we all really enjoyed ourselfs. I would go back there someday and Im sure I would enjoy it all over again. The decision is yours............!
