Key West ... Florida, United States. The city encompasses the namesake island, the part of Stock Island north of US-1 (the Overseas Highway) (east), Sigsbee Park (north), Fleming Key (north), and Sunset Key (west, originally known as Tank Island). Nearby Wisteria Island (northwest) and Key Haven (northeast) are unincorporated. Both Fleming Key and Sigsbee Park are part of the NAS Key West and are inaccessible by civilians.

There seems to be live music drifting out of every open fronted bar you walk past, tempting the hot and thirsty in. There are plenty of bars and restaurants, all serving frozen cocktails and a variety of delicious seafood at suprisingly reasonable prices. Two frozen cocktails in the heart of the ... more

Premium Review Key West: Can you beat it? (615 words)

I finally got to Key West this year after wanting to go for years and years. I don't know why I should have wanted to go to this place as opposed to anywhere else? I think the perceived romantic ideal of a sun drenched cast away isle got to me. While it isn't quite what I'd imagined, it was still fantastic. The drive down from Miami airport is a bit of a killer to begin with. 160 miles along a single lane road with speed limits varying from 55 to 35mph. It can take up to 4 hours, which isn't welcome when you just want to get where you're going. Once you get there and you've settled into your hotel and ventured out for the first time you ...  Read the complete review

I have been back to Key West four times so far, and another is planned! The Keys as a whole have a great 'feel' to them and just call you back year on year. December is when we go, its less busy and not so Hot! and three or four days is usually long enough before head on elsewhere. If you can possiby mange it try and co-incide your visit with the annual Harley Davidson POKER RUN. 10,000 bikers decend on Key West for a weekend and the place comes alive 24 hours a day. Caution - rooms become scarce so book in advance if possible. We normally hire push bikes and pedal around everywhere, greta fun and easier than a car and less tiring than ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Another opinion on Key West (251 words)

I have been to Key West only once, which isn't a lot considering I used to live in Florida. While it is true that the area is quite unlike anything in the rest of the state, I find the keys quite disappointing. The drive, however, is truly fantastic, above all if you are driving all the way to Key West. In fact, the drive is, in my humble opinion, the best thing about the rest of the keys! The other good thing about the keys is Key West itself. So, what I guess I'm trying to say is that, if you intend to drive to the keys, you might as well drive all the way to Key West because the other keys are not as interesting. I think that the drive is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Key West (261 words)

The Florida Keys and Key West in particular are a wonderful contrast to the more 'touristy' areas around Orlando. Key West is actually closer to Cuba than mainland Florida but the long drive there is worth it(especially when you experience the seven mile bridge). The majority of tourist hotels are situated on the outskirts of the town with the exception of the Southernmost Hotel which is in the town beside the beacon which proclaims it to be the southernmost point in the USA.I can recommend this hotel as it is in an excellent position at the end of Duval Street-the main shopping and nightlife area. The whole area has a very tropical feel to it with small ...  Read the complete review

The Keys are outstanding. Tjhe drive down is amazing and the people are some of the friendliest you could hope to meet.! Try and go swimming with the dolphins at the top of the keys and visit any one of the national beaches on the way down. There are loads of interesting bars and restaurants and the views are unsurpassed.! Swimming is good and snorkling better. The palm trees really give the impression that you are in paradise.! If you are going to go on the beach at Key WEst itself make sure you go to the Fort beach which is a national site and protected. It is the best beach there is and amazing. Try and dpo some of the watersports in the area such as ...  Read the complete review
