Advantages: It can be cheaper, It's more of an adventure, you have no schedule

Disadvantages: somebody will need to drive, you have to shop around, have to choose your friends well

If you want to go to Florida but don't want to pay as much for it as normal here is a good option. You need a few friends the more you can get the better. We went as a party of 6 but it would have been cheaper for 8. You can rent a house for about £500 pounds a week. So between 6 people it costs less than £100 a week. We stayed in Kissimmee, which was a nice quiet place close to Orland. We hired a people carrier for the 2 weeks that we were there. It gave us a great amount of freedom. The cheapest place that we found for the car was a place in Orlando called anchor auto rentals. For a bit extra he will pick you up from Stanford air port if you don't fly into orlando and take you back to his office. He also has to soft-top cars if you wanted something a bit up market. After that all you need is your flight. If you shop around you can get it quite cheap. All in all we only spent about £550 each on the flight, the house and the car. But obviously that depends on what bargains you can find. It also makes it a bit more of an adventure than just handing your money over to some company.
My advice also is getting a house with a pool. It can be a lot of fun if you don't happen to want to venture out on the day after a big night.
Down side if you go out drinking somebody will have to drive. They have zero tolerancy for drink driving in florida. If you drink and drive and get caught you will be taken to jail.
