Premium Review Koh Samui: Loads to do in Samui (217 words)

Koh Samui is an island in the Surat Thani provence of Thailand. Getting into Koh Samui from Bangkok is easy, as the island has it's own airport (an excellent airport - see my review). Flights from Bangkok to Koh Samui go for around 2000 THB with Bangkok Airways, and take around an hour, another route is by train, bus and ferry, joint tickets are available from all good travel agents around the Bangkok area, especially the Khao San Road area, as mostly backpackers purchase the joint overland travel tickets. As you disembark at Ko Samui airport you just know that this is going to be a wonderful holiday. Palm trees, no red tape and friendly staff all serve to reinforce that opinion. We were booked in at the Chaweng Blue Lagoon and after 24 hours of traveling since leaving home, we were really keen to get checked in. The manager met us and put us in a taxi before dropping the bombshell that the hotel was overbooked and we would have to spend the first night in another hotel. She assured us that it would be of similar class but I was immediately hostile to the idea. When we arrived at the Mercure Resort I expressed my gross dissatisfaction with the situation in polite but ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Koh Samui: beaches, lady boys and pad thai. (258 words)

We spent an idyllic and restful week on Chaweng beach on Koh Samui. Undeniably commercialised, it is none-the-less still charming. Accommodation ranges from around £4 a night through to very shi shi rooms at an price to match. We stayed in a hut a couple of minutes walk from the north of the beach. The price was a little expensive by Thai standards at 12 pounds a night, but this included air-conditioning and a hot shower. Food is cheap and you can get everything to fulfil your needs just laying on a beach. Getting a fresh pineapple peeled in front of you is a real luxury! Arrive there around the time of a full moon and you will get to go to one of the ...  Read the complete review

Cheap! (139 words)

To stay in Thailand is very cheap. Where I stayed in Koh Samui cost me about £2.50 a night and there were even cheaper places. The only thing is if you don't mind sharing a room with mice etc... The nightlife is a lot of fun. Especially trying to identify who is a bloke and who is a woman! There are loads of cheap places to eat and drink. There is a Thai Boxing arena near where I stayed but this was a little more expensive. The beaches in Koh Samui are really clean, the sea is clear and the weather is mostly good, depending on what time you visit. You can get to Koh Samui by getting the boat from the mainland and also by plane. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Koh Samui: Samui Madness (279 words)

Koh Samui...a place we meant to visit for 3 days and stayed 10! if that doesn't say it all what does. This place is the idyllic backpackers travel location. You can relax on the beach during the day and go mad at night in Chaweng or just totally veg out in the quietness of Lamai. The prices are still right and you can find a double bungalow for as little as 120 baht (60 baht to the pound or there abouts) and although basic they provide a bed for the night and shelter for the day. If partying is your scene, the huge variety of clubs and bars can provide whatever you want, but remember to keep your hands on your wallet and dont assume a lady's a lady!!!
