Last year I went on holiday to the Greek island of Kos, which is in the Aegean sea and is just off the coast of Turkey. I went with one friend and we stayed at the Anastasia Aparthotel in Kos town, which is the capital of Kos.

We booked our 7 night bed and breakfast holiday with the tour operator First Choice. For an extra £10 each we were able to pre book our seats on the flight from Birmingham which gauranteed that we sat together.

We arrived in Kos at 4.30 in the morning so we couldn't really see alot when being transferred from the airport to our hotel. The accomodation is quite basic, we stopped in a twin bedded room with a small bathroom. This had a very small hand held shower, a sink, a toilet and a bin which is for toilet paper as it is not allowed to be flushed down the toilet. There was also a drain in the middle of the floor. After my first shower I realised this was needed because the whole of the floor gets flooded.

The Anastasia aparthotel was situated on the outskirts of Kos town. It was just a short walk down into the town centre and the harbour. There are lots of bars and restaurants overlooking the harbour and along all the side streets. They serve Greek food and English food. The food is lovely and very reasonably priced, I would recommend the 'chicken souvlaki'.

There are also lots of souvenier shops in the town centre selling anything from designer clothes to sponges, soap and lace. There are also little markets stalls on the corners of roads selling lace, shells and hand made pottery.

Getting around in Kos town is easy. Almost everywhere is within walking distance, but if you are feeling brave you could hire a moped, car or bicycle, but beware as the drivers are a little mad over there and trying to cross the road is terrible.
There is a bus service that runs through the town stopping a var
ious places and also a mini train that will take you on a tour of the town.

There are many day trips on offer in Kos. We went on a trip to the island of Nissiros. There is an extinct volcano on this island and a huge crater which you are able to walk into.Beware of the smell! This is from sulphur and makes the whole area smell like rotten eggs.

We also went on a tour of Kos, visiting other resorts such as Kefelos and Kardemena. The trip also takes you to a number of archeological sites.
Other day trips include trips to Turkey, Water Park, and Scuba diving.

The island of Kos is a great place for a family holiday or for a group of friends.
