Laganas ... southern part of the Greek Ionian island of Zákynthos. It is a modern place on an old style Greek island, with a high proportion of nightclubs and bars. The main attraction of Lagana is the migration of the loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta). Each year during the months of June, July and August the turtles migrate to the bay of Laganas to lay their eggs on the beach. This is a protected beach which is watched over by ecologists at all times. The beach is quite shallow even when you walk out for a long distance. The resort has a large number of Club 18-30 hotels, being their second largest destination, and a few run by 2wentys.

These are very reasonably priced ( but not many people actually saw any turtles! ) As our holiday progressed we found turning one way at the end of this road we could walk along to the strip or carry on past it to Kalamaki . We travelled to Zante staying near Laganas Beach in May 2001.We flew from Manchester and the flying time wasn't bad at all. As this was a late spring/early summer break we were not sure about the weather etc.Because it was early May we got a 2 weeks for the price of one deal. After we booked friends decided to tell us we wouldn't enjoy Laganas Bay. They said it could be noisy and overcrowded in high season and was becoming overdeveloped . A bit late now but that's the way the cookie crumbles . So with some apprehension off we went . As always we decided to give it our best shot and not pre-judge the place . We have been to ...

Having been to Kavos for two years, i decided to take a detour to another greek island, Zante. Laganas was the resort, and the holiday was booked for two weeks at the start of september, 2004. Arriving in Zante was a pleasurable experience, the island seemed clean and not smelly (as oposed to Corfu, which stank!). The transfer time from the airport to resort was in the region of about 45 minutes, but dont really remember as it was 7 am and we were very sleepy! We arrived at a lovely set of apartments called the sea-side apartments. It was situated exactly on the beach, about 400 metres from the main strip. The beach itself is probably only about ...

I’m just back from a week in the sun soaked island of Zante and despite events in America I had a pretty good time. The island is as near to Britain as Greece gets with a flying time of 3 hours 40 minutes from Glasgow. But wait seeing as I’ve recently learned bullet points I’ll list this in easily accessible (and updateable) portions…  Getting there The island’s main or at least local airport to our chosen resort of Laganas is Zakynthos airport and it is , unreservedly, the worst airport I have ever visited .It is so small that my local taxi rank would dwarf it but despite this they have at least three flights an ...
