Advantages: It has beautiful scenery and some lovely little tavernas in the hills

Disadvantages: The night life is just too much for an old man like me

I lived in Laganas, Zakynthos for just over a year, returning home in October 2006. I worked as a decorator and handy man at one of the bigger hotels during the winter and then during the summer season I worked in a restaurant. I am not going to name the restaurant because I do not want to be seen as promoting!

Laganas is pretty much the place for single friends to have a heavy partying wild week away - any longer than that and your liver may as well be taken out and stored in a glass jar in vinegar. There was always young kids passed out, outside of a club or bar or vomiting at the bottom of the steps!

The Strip (as it is known) is full of some great bars and clubs with music to suit almost every taste. There are loads of resturants too, some good, some bad. At the bottom end of the strip is the beach. The beach is absolutely beautiful with some lovely beach bars to serve you cocktails as you relax on the beach. Running the stretch of the beach are various hotels and more restuarants. There is lots of variety from traditional Greek food to pizza.

There is lots of opportunity to hire a car, a buggy or a moped, just make sure to take your driving license else nowhere will hire you a vehicle. Some beautiful sights to be seen aroun dthe whole island and some great boats trips to go on. Shipwreck Island and Turtle Watching are must go trips.

There were always a lot of kids (very young children and babies) around begging on the streets, selling tat and there were quite often reports of skinny-dippers clothes being stolen by them. and after closing time I would see the kids fathers collecting them in their shiny BMWs. Be careful of them and do not be fooled!

I may go back one day to see the place where I met the love of my life and reminisce.

It is a beautiful island with lots to see but because of the nightlife it is packed with horny 18 year olds - if that floats your boat then this is probably the place to be.
