Lake Louise ... Park. The unique emerald colour of the water comes from rock flour carried into the lake by melt-water from the glaciers that overlook the lake. Recreational activities in the area include hiking, scrambling, and exceptional down-hill skiing. The elevation of the lake is 1536 m (5039 feet).

My experience at Lake Louise has completely built up my confidence, and I just can't wait to get out on the pistes again. It was a fantastic week and I would love to go back there as soon as I can afford to. Obviously it is a bit more costly than Europe but in my humble opinion was completely worth it! The food on the ... more

Premium Review Skiing at Lake Louise- A beginner's experience (726 words)

Skiing at Lake Louise was such an amazing experience for me. I went for a week at the very end of the season this year and it was the best snow I have ever seen! This was only my second time skiing (the first was France at christmas) and has helped boost my confidence so much. The runs are very wide and there are some great long runs for beginners. From every lift there is a green run which meant i could spend a lot more time with the rest of my party who are all a lot better skiiers than me. This also meant there were non of the panic attacks I had in France when I was getting pulled onto a lift without knowing where it lead to or which runs would let me get ...  Read the complete review

After the disaster of last year's ski trip to Val D'Isere, we decided that this year rather than try Europe again we would head further afield to Canada. After a bit of research and a tempting offer from Lastminute.com we opted for Lake Louise in the Canadian Rockies. The opinion is that the Canada is one of, if not the best place in the world to go skiing and that coupled with the price and a spot of internet research prompted us to head for the small hamlet of Lake Louise, hidden deep within the Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. The Hamlet of Lake Louise is located at the side of the Trans Canadian Highway, about an hour from the bigger resort of Banff ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Lake Louise: Skiing Heaven (1598 words)

The silent majesty of the Canadian Rockies in winter is a completely unforgettable sight but the feeling of skiing down the tree lined runs is second to none. Now that Christmas is over it is time to dust off the Salopettes, dig out the passports, buy a new set of thermals and head off to the slopes. Well an introduction like that makes me sound like an expert skier who goes year in, year out racing down the black runs, well the reality doesn’t quite add up, I have been once, to one of the most peaceful, beautiful areas I have ever visited Lake Louise, in the Canadian Rockies. Lake Louise is a 2 hour drive from Calgary (direct, but very long ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Chateau Lake Louise (927 words)

The attractions of Lake Louise are obvious - a most beautiful scene and Kodak film's dream. Both from the Chateau looking towards the Victoria Glacier, and in my opinion from the hiking trails skirting the lake looking towards the Chateau (my Sister recently described the Chateau as a blot on the landscape which I think is pretty unfair). The Chateau has become part of the attraction here, and you could argue without it, few would have had the opportunity to witnes this natural wonder. As I mention in my review of Banff National Park, the main criticism of this particular lake is it's popularity - it is always so busy with tourists - c'est la vie. On our ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Lake Louise: Beautiful! (192 words)

I've visited Lake Louise twice - once in the sun and once in the rain, and both times the natural beauty of the place took my breath away. The Lake itself is wide and deep, and the Rockies surrounding it provide a stunning background with snow on the highest peaks all year round. If you are taking a tour of the Rockies you must not miss this extraordinarily peaceful natural wonder. On the practical side, there is a visitors centre and some nice little souvenir shops, but thats not really what you're going for, is it?! I would recommend a trip to the Canadian Rockies to anyone looking for an exciting holiday that is a bit different from the usual. There ...  Read the complete review
