Langkawi IslandNewest Review: ... Tioman and Redang which can only be reached by boat or on a Berjaya Resort Airplane (in the case of Redang there is then no road to connect you to any other resort, so unless you stay at Berjaya you have to reach Redang by boat). The climate is hot all year round, although peak season is UK winter time, it still felt like summer in the middle of September and was quite scary to imagine that ... more |

I spent 6 nights in Langkawi in September 2009 and have also visited teh Malaysian islands of Tioman and Redang. Langkawi is an island belonging to Malaysia also known as the Jewel of Keddah and is geographically just south of Thailand. It has its own small airport and has great transport links to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur airports with budget airlines Air Asia and Fireflyz, this makes Langkawi a much easier island to access than Tioman and Redang which can only be reached by boat or on a Berjaya Resort Airplane (in the case of Redang there is then no road to connect you to any other resort, so unless you stay at Berjaya you have to reach Redang by ... Langkawi is an island situated off the coast of western Malaysia, not far below the border with Thailand. It is home to people from many cultural backgrounds, all of whom are friendly and charming and cannot do enough to help. Our two week holiday in early May 2004 began with a direct flight to Langkawi with Malaysia Airlines from London Heathrow. The 21.00hrs flight was virtually full, but leg room was better than average and the flight crew were attentive and anxious to please. This direct overnight flight takes around 11.5hrs. A note of advice on the food though, it was curry curry all the way, even at breakfast time! Entertainment was excellent with ... Read the complete review

Introduction ------------------- The sun, the beach, the trees... this is what langkawi really is about. Do not be tricked by advertisements about its aquarium, it's crocodile farms and all sorts. The essentials of this mystical place is its natural nature beauty. Transportation ---------------------- You can arrive there by plane or by a ferry from Penang or Kedah (states in Malaysia) and transportation in Langkawi relies on rented cars and taxis. There are no buses around but really there isn't much need for it because it's a duty free island, cars are extremely cheap, and petrol in malaysia is naturally cheap. Legend ... If you enjoy long haul tropical holidays it really might be worth saving hard for this one. The Datai Hotel, Langkawi, Malaysia. Details available on the internet through any good search engine. The weather in our winter is hot but beware that you may catch heavy rains up until December. Luxury is the Datai's middle name. They look after you with traditional Malaysian hospitality plus a bit more. This is not a resort for those who want night life or action. It is quiet, relaxing and emphasises wildlife and fine cuisine (The catering manager takes the quality of his food personnally down to the smallest detail and the hotel has qualified guides to show you the best ... I recently went to Langkawi through an extra stop-over with my plane ticket. My mates recommended it to me, and boy were they right! The downpoint was that I was there on my own, but I made friends easily! I stayed in the main town on the island in the Langkawi Sea view hotel 3*, which was cracking, they gave me a free upgrade to the Delux room, which was kick-ass. The hotel staff helped me so much, sorting out what to do and where to go and all for £13 a night. So what's there to do?? Firstly, travelling around the island is a joke it's SOOOOO cheap !! 45 mins drive about £4 But remember to barter! 1. Island hopping see the cool little islands ... Read the complete review
