Advantages: beautiful place

Disadvantages: n/a

Langkawi Island is off the coast of the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia. It's part of Kedah.

It's becoming one of the hottest tourist spot in Malaysia. Mostly due to its beautiful beaches. Unlike Penang Island, Langkawi is maily kep in a very natural way. Although more and more development is starting to threaten it's natural beauty.

You can easily reach the island either by flight from KL or Penang, by speed ferry from Kuala perlis or Kuala Kedah, the former takes shorter time (about 1hour).

You can also buy things here free of tax as it's a duty free zone. Good for drinkers.

All sorts of accomodation is available here, be it 5 star hotel or just camp sites.

You can hire a bike, a motorcyclye, car or just take the taxi to get around the main island. Or take a boat trip to the surrounding islands.

Here you will find fine beaches, offering sun-filled days of complete relaxation. The enchanting marine life also provide a heaven for the diving enthusiasts. A host of water sports and recreational activities is possible in the clear water around the islands.

Major attractions:
Underwater World Langkawi, the largest in Asia, features more than 5,000 marine and fresh-water fishes.

Laman Padi Langkawi: The history, heritage and development of Padi (rice) cultivation are displayed here, which also function as the industry's information and knowledge dissemination centre.

Tanjung Rhu or the famous Cape of the Casuarinas: it's about 22 kilometres from the main town of Kuah, with a wide sloping beach.

Makam Mahsuri:(Mahsuri's Mausoleum)According to legend, Mahsuri was unjustly accused of adultery. She bled white blood at her execution as a sign of her innocence, and laid a curse on the island that it would remain barren for seven generations. Seven generations have since passed and today, Langkawi is a well known tourist destination.
r>Telaga Tujuh (Seven Wells): The waterfall is so named because its cascading waters is broken by a series of seven natural pools.

Pulau Payar marine park: Comprises of 4 islands, surrounded by well-protected coral reefs that promote the healthy existence of the marine environment. The islands are a favourite destination for swimming, diving or snorkeling.
