Leipzig is the second largest city in former East Germany and is a major business and transport centre. I had the pleasure of attending a conference in Leipzig for a week and I really enjoyed my time there. Leipzig was quite easy to reach by plane. I got a connecting flight from Amsterdam that stopped at Leipzig then continued on to Dresden, which is very close by. There is a bus from the airport straight into the centre of Leipzig and stops outside the very impressive railway station. The train station is huge with 26 platforms, a shopping centre and food court. A Walk to and through an Art Museum Leipzig has two major art museums with collections originating to a substantial extent from donations made by art-loving Leipzig citizens. The Museum of Plastic Arts housed in the Imperial Court Building exhibits paintings by Lucas Cranach, the Renaissance painter, excellent examples of Dutch painting in the 17th century, works of art by the symbolist Max Klinger and a selection of paintings from the former GDR.
