Newest Review: ... too serious). I dislike flying immensely, and feel happiest on South African Airways. On arrival to Lilongwe International Airport, it is quite a shock to the system. After departing from a 'real' international airport, with shiny machines, working electronics and smart staff, you have an immediate culture shock. There are wooden tables which the passport control officials sit at. No computers, just a rubber stamp, and paper forms. There are 3 choices, residents, non-residents, and the ever elusive diplomats. I lived in Lilongwe for 12 years. I enjoyed my early 20's through to my 30's there, and I can honestly say they were fantastic years. Two of my children were born there, so consider themselves 'Malawian', and all of them have spent the majority of their life's there. So Lilongwe is very close to us, and has a host of super memories. **** All about Lilongwe **** Malawi is a third world country. If some of this sounds like a fairy tale, so be it. In early November 2001, we returned from a four-week holiday in Malawi and it still feels like we were forced out of paradise. Not a perfect paradise mind you, but a paradise nevertheless. Our eyes and hearts are still wide open, which I'm grateful for. Malawi is a small country in southeast Africa, bordering onto Tanzania, Zambia and Mozambique. In the four weeks we stayed there, we have not seen terribly much of the country, as the main reason for our trip was to visit friends who have emigrated there just over a year ago.
