Advantages: Lots of clubs, good beaches

Disadvantages: Ugly

I spent a week in Lloret at the beginning with July. It is about an hours drive from Barcelona on the north of the south coast of Spain. A few hours along the coast from Marseille.

Although it lacks the charm shared by neighbouring Tossa de Mar it is a great place to holiday in. There are two lovely beaches with beautiful blue water, Fanals and Lloret. Both are fully lifeguarded and the water is clean, although the small pebbles on the beach are similar to those in a cats litter tray and parts of fanals beach bear resemblance to a huge ash tray!

At Fanals beach there are various water sports. Sailing, parasailing, windsurfing and a banana boat. The parasailing costs £20 and the banana boat £4. I can highly recommend both.

If the beach is not for you Lloret has its own water park. Wear lots of sunscreen as you will invariably spend all day in the water. there is everything from flumes to huge pools and a wave machine. There are three bars and cafes within the park where food can be purchased for very reasonable prices.

Lloret itself has many shops from road side stalls to designer boutiques and several supermarkets. There is also a McDonalds for the less adventurous eaters amongst us.

Lloret has a superb scene at night. There are lots of nightclubs and pubs. The best English pub I visited was The Robin Hood by Fanals beach. Most pubs don't close until 3am. The clubs are often open until 5:30am. I would recommend Hollywood, Tropics and Revolution. These are all situated in downtown Lloret, near Burger King! Revolution has a lazer show every night which is well worth seeing. For most club the entry age is 18 however there are one or two which will permit 16 year olds to enter. Most clubs cost in the region of 1500 pesetas (around £6). Tropics is very good if you plan to go clubbing all week. I paid 2000 pesetas (around £8) this gave me two free drinks from the bar and an entry card for the rest of the week. I simply
showed this and my entrnace was free for the rest of the week.

There are also various casinos in Lloret which are well worth a visit.

One can also visit nearby Tossa. The drive is very scenic as is the town. Much prettier than Lloret which was many high rise apartment blocks and hotels.

I was just in Lloret, and hated it. We relocated to Tossa De Mar and LOVED it!
