It is an alpha world city having a population of 3.8 million people and spanning 498 square miles. The Los Angeles–Long Beach–Santa Ana metropolitan area is home to 12.9 million people. Los Angeles was founded in 1781 by Spanish Captain Rivera y Moncada, yet it was not incorporated as a municipality until April 4, 1850—five months before California achieved statehood. Another place on my 'must visit' list when planning my round the world trip was Los Angeles. We arrived here late and tired after a 12 hours drive and weren't greeted very well at our hostel (but that's another story!). I had high expectations of LA, it's being the place of celebs and all that. We were staying on the 'Walk of Fame'. So I have told you about my first trip on my Honeymoon so now the second. When we finished in Vegas which is the most glamorous place I have ever been to with glorious weather and we arrive in Los Angeles Airport. The people were still very friendly and the airport was very big but when we left everywhere looked so dull. It was raining and we were stuck in traffic for what seemed like hours and then all of the buildings just looked like they needed a good spruce up. We then got to our Hotel and I was worried about what we would do and during the trip of 3 days we were unsure of LA but now reflecting back we loved it and here is why. Now I am going to take ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Los Angeles: Fun and lots to see - very spaced out though - get the bus!! (2156 words)

Had my first trip to Los Angeles recently - didn't manage to do everything I wanted to as was only there for 6 days but managed to cram quite a bit in. I would say the atmosphere is similar to London but everything is much more spread out and so really you need to hire a car to get about. Not much help for me since I don't drive yet - so cabs and buses were our best friends on this trip! --Getting there-- We flew out with BA - sceptical as always as it was from Heathrow Terminal 5 but had no problems with baggage or check in. The only thing that annoys me about BA is you only get your seats on online check in - other airlines let you choose your ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A city where drivers don't try to run over pedestrians (247 words)

Los Angeles is one of the major cities in West Coast of America that I would recommend anyone to visit. In general I prefer the people in LA to that of New York for example. The people in LA are generally a bit more relaxed, outgoing and more European like. On the other hand East Coast Americans come across as very American. The first thing that catches my attention when walking around in LA, the drivers don't try to run pedestrians over unlike other cities. For example if I'm crossing a road and a driver sees me, they will slow down far in advance and let me pass. On the other hand there have been occasions when walking around New York that yellow taxi cabs ...  Read the complete review

The city of Angels This is only my experience and an aim of my trip was to do all the touristy things! I used to work at Manchester Airport and as I had to endure seeing people go off on their trips around the world everyday I developed a bit of a holiday bug wanting to get away a lot so at the end of January 2002 I decided I wanted to revisit the USA me and my friend booked to go to Los Angeles and Anaheim. Getting there and staying there. We went with American Airlines from Manchester and he flights were quite cheap at the time of year and it was a connecting flight through Chicago to get there. What was strange was leaving a wet January ...  Read the complete review
