Advantages: Nice people

Disadvantages: Can't get anywhere without a car

Los Angeles is one of the major cities in West Coast of America that I would recommend anyone to visit. In general I prefer the people in LA to that of New York for example. The people in LA are generally a bit more relaxed, outgoing and more European like. On the other hand East Coast Americans come across as very American.

The first thing that catches my attention when walking around in LA, the drivers don't try to run pedestrians over unlike other cities. For example if I'm crossing a road and a driver sees me, they will slow down far in advance and let me pass. On the other hand there have been occasions when walking around New York that yellow taxi cabs simply drive at full throttle no matter what.

Like most other parts of America, LA is like a major motorway, it is impossible to walk anywhere. If you want to go shopping, you have to get in your car and drive there. Rarely do you see people walking along the street. For example once, I went for a walk from my hotel in Beverly Hills to the local shopping mall. There was no one on the pedestrian walkways; it seemed like a ghost town. However walking into the shopping mall it was very crowded.

Overall my main reason for recommending LA, is the people who live there, very down to earth and easy to talk to.

Compared to other US cities it was rather underwhelming.

I've just come back from New York and I totally agree with you on taxi cabs almost attempt to run you over. I was shocked that there were no real pedestrian crossings and even when it tells you to walk, the cars still come over lol. I'd love to go to LA, hopefully one day I'll be working there.
