The houses are much smaller than stately homes in the UK, and there is less to know about them. The big attraction is one called Oak Alley, and the trees outside it were the best thing. The guides were not very well informed, and they completely glossed over slavery and the civil war. Baton Rouge was a dump. The only good thing was the State Building. You can get in for free, and the viewing tower was the highest point and afforded a great view of the Mississippi.There is a small museum about the asassin... more |

Everyone has heard about how cool New Orleans is, but what about the rest of Louisiana? We went there last summer on a self propelled unrouted fly drive holiday. It was good, but not as good as we had hoped. The main reason is that unlike some of the other states, like Arizona or New Mexico, there is a dearth of big set piece show things for Tourists.
